Hypofractionnated radiotherapy for elderly patients with prostate cancer

2018

Radiation therapy technique and schedules could be adapted to patient's age because of a natural history of prostate cancer perceived as different, taking into account the comorbidities of patients but also a particular tolerance of elderly subjects. Thus, in localized prostate cancer, evaluation of associated diseases is essential before considering a treatment that will be of interest only if the life expectancy is greater than 10 years. When a curative approach is decided, radiotherapy holds a place of choice. Due to the recent results of randomized studies evaluating moderate hypofractionnated radiotherapy, showing a carcinological equivalence compared to a standard fractionation, this …

Cerebrospinal fluid pharmacokinetics of ceftaroline in neurosurgical patients with external ventricular drain

2018

International audience; Background: Due to its antibacterial properties ceftaroline could be attractive for the treatment of bacterial postneurosurgicalmeningitis. However only few data are available concerning its meningeal concentrations. The aim of this studywas to investigate ceftaroline cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pharmacokinetics (PK) in intensive care unit (ICU) patients with anexternal ventricular drain (EVD).Materials/methods: Patients received a single 600 mg dose of ceftaroline as a one-hour intravenous infusion . Blood and CSFsamples were collected before and 0.5, 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours after the end of the infusion. Concentrations were assayed inplasma and CSF by LC-MS/MS. A tw…

Accuracy of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis in adult patients: review of the literature

2013

Background Ultrasound is a widely used technique in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis; nevertheless, its utilization still remains controversial. Methods The accuracy of the Ultrasound technique in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis in the adult patient, as shown in the literature, was searched for. Results The gold standard for the diagnosis of appendicitis still remains pathologic confirmation after appendectomy. In the published literature, graded-compression Ultrasound has shown an extremely variable diagnostic accuracy in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis (sensitivity range from 44% to 100%; specificity range from 47% to 99% ). This is due to many reasons, including lack of operat…

Influence of anxiety and anesthetic vasoconstrictors upon hemodynamic parameters during dental procedures in controlled hypertensive and non-hyperten…

2020

Background To determine the influence of dental anxiety and the vasoconstrictor used in local anesthesia upon different hemodynamic parameters - systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), heart rate (HR) and peripheral oxygen saturation (SatO2) - during dental extraction and oral hygiene. The safety of local anesthesia with vasoconstrictor in patients with medically controlled hypertension was also assessed. Material and methods A total of 159 patients were divided into two groups according to the dental treatment received: tooth extraction (n = 106) and oral hygiene (n = 53). The hemodynamic parameters (SBP, DBP, HR and SatO2) were recorded throughout dental treatment. Patient anxi…
