Cross-Diffusion Driven Instability in a Predator-Prey System with Cross-Diffusion

In this work we investigate the process of pattern formation induced by nonlinear diffusion in a reaction-diffusion system with Lotka-Volterra predator-prey kinetics. We show that the cross-diffusion term is responsible of the destabilizing mechanism that leads to the emergence of spatial patterns. Near marginal stability we perform a weakly nonlinear analysis to predict the amplitude and the form of the pattern, deriving the Stuart-Landau amplitude equations. Moreover, in a large portion of the subcritical zone, numerical simulations show the emergence of oscillating patterns, which cannot be predicted by the weakly nonlinear analysis. Broadband telecom to mid-infrared supercontinuum generation in a dispersion-engineered silicon germanium waveguide.

We demonstrate broadband supercontinuum generation (SCG) in a dispersion-engineered silicon-germanium waveguide. The 3 cm long waveguide is pumped by femtosecond pulses at 2.4 μm, and the generated supercontinuum extends from 1.45 to 2.79 μm (at the −30 dB point). The broadening is mainly driven by the generation of a dispersive wave in the 1.5–1.8 μm region and soliton fission. The SCG was modeled numerically, and excellent agreement with the experimental results was obtained.

Hydro-Acoustic Target Detection

This chapter presents an example of utilization of the discrete–time wavelet packets, which are described in Sect. 9.1, to classification of acoustic signals and detection of a target. The methodology based on wavelet packets is applied to a problem of detection of a boat of a certain type when other background noises are present. The solution is obtained via analysis of boat’s hydro-acoustic signature against an existing database of recorded and processed hydro-acoustic signals. The signals are characterized by the distribution of their energies among blocks of wavelet packet coefficients.
An Improved Forecasting Model from Satellite Imagery Based on Optimum Wavelet Bases and Adam Optimized LSTM Methods

This paper proposes a new hybrid approach I-WT-LSTM (i.e., Improved Wavelet Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) Model) for forecasting non-stationary time series (TS) from satellite imagery. The proposed approach consists of two steps: The first step aims at decomposing TS using Multi-Resolution Analysis wavelet (MRA-WT) into inter-and intra-annual components using 18 different mother wavelets (MW). The electroretinogram is the record of the electrical response of the retina to a light stimulus. The two main components are the a-wave and the b-wave, the former is related to the early photoreceptoral activity. In this thesis, light matter interaction in nanoscale has been studied from various aspects. The interaction between surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) and optically active organic molecules (Rhodamine 6G, Sulforhodamine 101 and Coumarine 30) and semiconducting nanocrystals (quantum dots) is studied in the weak coupling regime. In particular, a photon-SPP-photon conversion with spatially separated inand outcoupling was demonstrated by using molecules. Also, a frequency downconversion for propagating SPPs was presented by utilization of vibrational relaxation of organic molecules.
