Result and cost of hepatic chemoembolisation with drug eluting beads in 21 patients.

2012

Abstract Purpose The aim of our study was to assess the results and cost of a treatment strategy involving transarterial chemoembolisation with drug eluting beads (DEB-TACE) in patients with unresectable non-metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Patients and methods This study included all patients treated with DEB-TACE in our hospital between January 2009 and December 2010. All patients received DEB-TACE on demand and were evaluated after each session. Results Twenty-one patients received an average of 1.3 sessions. The median time to treatment discontinuation and median progression-free survival was 181 days and 295 days, respectively. Toxicity caused treatment discontinuation in thr…

Do Reduced Hospital Mortality Rates Lead to Increased Utilization of Inpatient Emergency Care?:A Population-Based Cohort Study

2018

OBJECTIVES: To measure the impact of the improvement in hospital survival rates on patients' subsequent utilization of unplanned (emergency) admissions.DATA SOURCES/STUDY SETTING: Unplanned admissions occurring in all acute hospitals of the National Health Service in England between 2000 and 2009, including 286,027 hip fractures, 375,880 AMI, 387,761 strokes, and 9,966,246 any cause admissions.STUDY DESIGN: Population-based retrospective cohort study. Unplanned admissions experienced by patients within 28 days, 1 year, and 2 years of discharge from the index admission are modeled as a function of hospital risk-adjusted survival rates using patient-level probit and negative binomial models. …

Employment Status and Personal Income Before and After Onset of a Severe Mental Disorder: A Case-Control Study.

2020

Objective: Individuals with severe mental disorders have an impaired ability to work and are likely to receive income transfer payments as their main source of income. However, the magnitude of this phenomenon remains unclear. Using longitudinal population cohort register data, the authors conducted a case-control study to examine the levels of employment and personal income before and after a first hospitalization for a serious mental disorder. Methods: All individuals (N=50,551) who had been hospitalized for schizophrenia, other nonaffective psychosis, or bipolar disorder in Finland between 1988 and 2015 were identified and matched with five randomly selected participants who were the sam…

Positive and negative word of mouth (WOM) are not necessarily opposites: A reappraisal using the dual factor theory

2021

Prior research has not systematically investigated the enablers and inhibitors in conjunction to measure consumer behavior toward mobile wallets (m-wallets), focusing either on the adoption or the resistance perspective only. Similarly, antecedents and consequences of the dichotomous nature of word of mouth for m-wallets have also remained obscure so far. The present research proposes to address this void in the accumulated learnings by examining both enablers and inhibitors of mobile wallets (m-wallets) as antecedents of valence of word of mouth (positive and negative; PWOM and NWOM, respectively). Grounded in Dual Factor Theory, this study aims to explore consumers’ continued use intentio…

Evaluating multidimensional prices

1998

The price at which a product is offered often does not consist of a single item of information, for example VW Golf, price; DM25,476. Instead, a multidimensional pricing system is used, e.g. the price comprises a down payment, monthly installments and a repayment period in months. Despite the considerable significance of offers of this type for marketing policy, no information is presently available to describe how a consumer integrates the individual price dimensions (e.g. down payment, monthly installments and number of repayment periods) to form a global judgment. This article derives hypotheses to explain the formation of a price judgment about multidimensional prices. Then, an empirica…

Business models of FinTechs – Difference in similarity?

2021

Abstract The FinTech industry is gradually maturing and offers a wide range of financial services on the global stage. Still, the understanding of FinTech business models remains at its infancy with a shortage of cross-country comparisons. This paper aims to determine the differences in business model attributes of FinTechs in five rapidly emerging FinTech hotspots in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Survey results from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Russia, accompanied by cluster analysis, enable us to provide unique in-depth evidence on FinTech business models. Across the selected countries, we observe significant differences in the attributes of FinTech business models: key act…

Internet banking adoption among mature customers: early majority or laggards?

2003

Finland is a world leader in electronic banking, and over 39.8 percent of all retail banking transactions were made over the Internet in August 2000. Using the data of a large survey, we analyzed mature customers’ Internet banking behavior. Internet banking was the third popular mode of payment among mature customers. Household income and education were found to have a significant effect on the adoption of the Internet as a banking channel, so that over 30 percent of wealthy and well‐educated mature males make e‐banking their primary mode of making payments. Perceived difficulty in using computers combined with the lack of personal service in e‐banking were found to be the main barriers of …

A conjoint analysis of customers' preferences for e-banking channels

2021

Internet has transformed the manner in which banks interact with the customers. The purpose of the paper is to measure customers' preferences towards different channel attributes namely: internet banking, mobile banking and payment portals at a composite level that reflect the relative importance of usage attributes, i.e., payment type, transaction size, motivation to use and rate of urgency. Conjoint analysis was applied to estimate utilities for these attributes and to determine the existence of consumer groups with similar preference profiles. Furthermore, our study shows that the most preferred combination of utilities are customers preference to use payment portal, for 'paying bills' o…

Aridity index, soil erosion and climate drive no-till ecosystem services trade-off in Mediterranean arable land

2021

Abstract Despite the relevant literature on the advantages of no-till (NT) management, the world area under NT is only 10% of the arable land, probably due to several limiting factors as climate, soil types, farming systems and yield. Soil conservation practices and particularly NT soil management are able to provide many ecosystem services (ESs). This paper suggests a framework to determine the area distribution of soil erosion control and food security ESs trade-offs furnished by NT, starting from the potential soil erosion and aridity index maps. The interaction between the potential soil erosion and the aridity index showed that different trade-offs and synergies of multiple ESs may occ…
