Headache attributed to head or neck trauma
2010
Publisher Summary This chapter presents an overview of all types of posttraumatic headache (PTH): acute PTH, chronic PTH, and headache after a whiplash injury, taking account of the definition and latest criteria of International Headache Classification II (ICHD-II). Headache is a symptom that may occur after injury to the head, neck, or brain. PTH is a cardinal symptom of the “postconcussion syndrome” and may be accompanied by somatic, psychological, or cognitive disturbances. PTH is always a new-onset headache resulting from brain, head, and sometimes neck injury, and can simulate the clinical characteristics of several primary headaches. Severe, moderate, and mild head injuries can cause…
Patienten-Daten-Management in der Intensivtherapie - Pro und Kontra

Relevanz von Infektionskrankheiten in einer Kinderarztpraxis
1993
According to official statistics, infectious diseases only play a minor role in German children. To test this assumption, 1685/3405 charts of a private pediatrician were randomly chosen for further evaluation. 1112/1685 children had been seen in the office during the study period, 934 of them because of an infectious disease (83%). 700/934 charts were further reviewed in a standardized fashion. Pharyngo-tonsillitis was the most frequent diagnosis (18.6%), followed by (non-obstructive) bronchitis (18.5%), infectious diseases of the skin (10.2%) and Otitis media (9.9%). Typical "childhood diseases" (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella) only played a minor role. For some diseases age-specific a…
W05-01 - Rationale and Design of an RCT Comparing “EMC-Strategy” with TAU in Patients with Major Depression - the EMC Trial
2010
IntroductionFor Major Depression, current guidelines recommend treatment durations of 3-8 weeks until optimisation in case of insufficient outcome. Many retrospective studies indicate that improvement (HAMD-17 decrease ≥20%) occurs usually within 10-14 days and that non-improvement after 14 days of treatment is highly predictive for poor clinical outcome.MethodsIn level 1 of the EMC trial, non-improvers after 14 days of antidepressant treatment will be randomised to “early medication change” (EMC) strategy or treatment according to current guidelines (TAU). EMC schedules treatment optimisations on day 15 and day 29 in case of non-improvement. TAU schedules a medication change after 28 days …
Seidlmayer’s purpura: five cases and review of the litterature
2014
About 100 cases of AHEI have been published in medical literature worldwide. Although initially considered a variant of Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP), it is now considered a separate entity: in fact it shows infrequently visceral involvement and IgA skin depositions. Furthermore these patients show a better prognosis than HSP patients. Onset age for AHEI usually ranges between 4 and 24 months but it spreads from birth to 60 months. AHEI, also defined Seidlmayer’s purpura (SP), is characterized by the triad: fever, oedema and purpura. The latter is usually rosette-, annular- or targeted-shaped primarily over the face, ears and extremities in a nontoxic infant. The development and the rapidi…
EPA-0666 – Long-term maintenance of efficacy of extended-release guanfacine hydrochloride (GXR) in children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hy…
2014
Introduction GXR, a selective α2A-adrenergic agonist, is a non-stimulant ADHD treatment approved in the USA for children and adolescents, and in Canada for children. Objectives To evaluate long-term maintenance of efficacy of GXR in children and adolescents with ADHD who respond to an initial open-label, short-term trial. Aims To determine if there is a higher rate of treatment failure for placebo vs GXR during the double-blind randomised-withdrawal phase (RWP) (NCT01081145). Methods Patients (6–17 years) meeting DSM-IV-TR criteria for ADHD, baseline ADHD Rating Scale-IV (ADHD-RS-IV) ≥32 and Clinical Global Impressions-Severity (CGI-S) ratings ≥4 were enrolled. Following 7-week dose optimiz…
Suizidale und parasuizidale Intoxikationen mit Paracetamol
2003
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Paracetamol is frequently used in deliberate self-poisoning resulting in a major risk for the patients due to its dose-dependent hepatotoxicity. In the present study the cases of intoxications consulting our Poison Center should be analysed illustrating recent results and trends. PATIENTS AND METHODS: From 38 065 patients (25 098 female, 12447 male, 520 sex unknown, average age 36.8 years) registered during the study period from 1.1.1995 until 31.5.2002 4021 with paracetamol intoxication were analysed with respect to the ingested dose, concomitant substances, the degree of observed symptoms and the length of hospital stay. RESULTS: The use of paracetamol in deliber…
Gruppentherapeutische Frühintervention für Patienten im Frühstadium der Alzheimererkrankung und deren Angehörige - Eine Pilotstudie
2008
Subject Pilot study on an early-interventional group therapy for patients with incipient Alzheimer disease and their relatives. The present study investigates whether scientific progress in terms of earlier time of diagnostic certainty can be used for psychoeducation, maintenance of positive activities and prevention of comorbid depressive episodes. Methods 12 patients (66.8 +/- 5.8 years, MMSE 24.0 +/- 4.0) together with 12 relatives have been treated with a bi-weekly group therapy program. Results For the patients treatment resulted in reduced anxiety, anergia and withdrawal, for their relatives reduced sleep disturbances, irascibility, and aggressiveness have been found. Only one of the …

2015
Background This study aimed to determine knowledge, attitude and practice of airborne and droplet isolation precautions among Dental Health Professionals (DHPs) (dental students, interns, practitioners and auxiliaries) during the outbreak of MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome), corona virus infection in Riyadh city, Saudi Arabia. Material and Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 406 dental health professionals (DHPs) working in selected dental facilities in Riyadh city, Saudi Arabia during the outbreak of MERS (April-June 2013).
