Background aging process is associated with changes in muscle mass and strength with decline of muscle strength after the 30(th) life year. The aim of this study was to investigate these changes in muscle mass and strength. Patients & methods for this analysis 26 participants were subdivided in two groups. Group 1 comprises participants aged 40 years (n=12). We assessed anthropometrics, range of motions, leg circumferences and isometric strength values of the knee joints. In another preterm infant of 27 weeks’ gestation, multiple fractures of the radius and metacarpalia were observed at age 5 months. Also a full term twin showed multiple rib fractures. Additional radiological findings were: generalized skeletal osteopenia, cupping and fraying of the metaphyses of the long bones, and subperiosteal new bone formation. In order to assess the value of the addition of fludarabine as a chemo-modulator to a high-dose AraC based salvage regimen for patients with refractory and relapsed acute myeloid leukemia the German AML Cooperative Group initiated a prospective randomized comparison between fludarabine q 12 hours on days 1,2,8, and 9 in addition to the S-HAI regimen, consisting of high-dose AraC q 12 hours on days 1, 2, 8, and 9 and idarubicin on days 3,4,10, and 11, as compared with S-HAI alone. Abstract LBH589 is a novel cinnamic acid hydroxamate DACi which induces apoptosis in multiple hematologic tumor cell lines in vitro at nanomolar levels. LBH589 has been administered orally, once-a-day, on Monday/Wednesday/Friday, every week (Arm 1) or every other week (Arm 2), in cycles of 28 days, to adult pts with advanced hematologic malignancies. A 3-parameter Bayesian logistic regression model guided dose escalation.
