Information transmission under an experimental approach

2015

2020

The objectives of this paper are twofold: to prove the thesis on the openness of a purposefully selected researcher and to take advantage of the opportunity to present some of his thoughts, taken from his abundant publications (more than three hundred items). The authors focus on the presentation of one topic, i.e. openness in the works of linguist Professor Wojciech Chlebda. This subject sometimes appears on the surface when the researcher speaks explicitly about it, but is frequently present in presuppositions or on a metalinguistic level. The methodological roots of these considerations refer to “judgements, beliefs and assumptions” hidden in the texts. The material for the analyses is a…

Openness and Discreteness

2013

The aim of this chapter is to study conditions under which a mapping of finite distortion is open (maps open sets to open sets) and discrete (preimage of each point is a discrete set).

Open-ended projects opened up — aspects of openness

2017

Abstract—One of the most important areas of competence for professional engineers is the ability to function well in project work, in particular they need to be able to efficiently solve open-ended problems in different collaborative settings. The development of this ability is however not prominent in engineering education despite numerous authors suggesting openended problems as a pedagogical tool to promote development of collaborative problem solving competence by including elements of group or project work in courses. In our own long experience of using open-ended problems in collaborative student projects, we have identified a lack of systematic progression in learning outcomes and sk…

Semantic Portal as a Tool for Structural Reform of the Ukrainian Educational System

2014

Education is recognized as a fundamental enabler of human development. The adoption of information and communications technologies (ICTs) by education (especially in developing countries) contributes to educational system reforms, in addition to the traditional advantages, such as social openness and accessibility. Yet the academic community has not studied sufficiently the challenging context in which ICTs are used as instruments for the reform of inefficient, and sometimes even corrupted, educational systems rather than just as means for smarter classrooms, remote access, or content management. The object of this study is Ukrainian higher education (HE) and its quality assurance (QA) syst…

High-precision measurement of the mass difference between 102Pd and 102Ru

2019

Abstract The Q-value for the neutrinoless double electron capture on 102Pd, Qϵϵ(102Pd), is determined as the atomic mass difference between 102Pd and 102Ru. A precise measurement of the Qϵϵ(102Pd) at the SHIPTRAP Penning trap showed a more than 10σ deviation to the adopted Atomic Mass Evaluation (AME) value. The reliability of the SHIPTRAP measurement was challenged because the AME value was based on numerous experiments including β and electron capture decays and very precise (n, γ) data, all agreeing with each other. To solve the discrepancy, the Qϵϵ(102Pd) has now been determined with the JYFLTRAP Penning trap at the IGISOL facility in the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyva…

High-precision measurement of a low Q value for allowed β−-decay of 131I related to neutrino mass determination

2022

The ground-state-to-ground-state β−-decay 131I (7/2+) → 131Xe (3/2+) Q value was determined with high precision utilizing the double Penning trap mass spectrometer JYFLTRAP at the IGISOL facility. The Q value of this β−-decay was found to be Q = 972.25(19) keV through a cyclotron frequency ratio measurement with a relative precision of 1.6 × 10−9. This was realized using the phase-imaging ion-cyclotron-resonance technique. The new Q value is more than 3 times more precise and 2.3σ higher (1.45 keV) than the value extracted from the Atomic Mass Evaluation 2020. Our measurement confirms that the β−-decay to the 9/2+ excited state at 971.22(13) keV in 131Xe is energetically allowed with a Q va…
