Study of low-pressure suspension plasma spray nanostructured coating : structural characteristics and application in solid oxide fuel cell

2021

Suspension plasma spraying (SPS) has attracted more and more attention in terms of the preparation of nanostructured / sub-microstructured ceramic coatings. However, conventional SPS techniques are conducted under atmospheric pressure, which inevitably causes some disadvantages. Recently, a novel suspension spraying technology – low-pressure suspension plasma spraying (LPSPS) – was proposed, in which the sus-pension spraying process is conducted under low environmental pressure. Benefit from the significant impact of low pressure on the coating deposition, LPSPS is expected to improve the disadvantage of SPS as well as to obtain distinct coating structures not achievable in conventional SPS…

Study of nucleation and growth processes of ettringite in diluted conditions

2020

Abstract Ettringite is a key compound of cementitious materials, formed during hydration that influences the rheological behavior of the cement paste. Despite its importance, ettringite formation has been poorly studied. In this work, nucleation and growth processes of ettringite were separately investigated. Ettringite nucleation was described using the Classical Nucleation Theory and an interfacial crystal-solution energy was determined. After the initial primary homogeneous nucleation, when the surface of already formed crystals was still low, the precipitation rate was shown to depend almost exclusively on the solution supersaturation. When the surface of crystals in suspension was gett…

Surface area, density and porosity measurements using the magnetic suspension balance

1989

The advantage of gravimetry in the determination of surface area is discussed in comparison with the volumetric method. The magnetic suspension balance is described and new developments are presented. As an example of the application of gravimetric measurements the determination of apparent density and specific surface area before and after oxidation of a Poco graphite are described.

Hydrodynamics with spin in bacterial suspensions

2016

We describe a new kind of self-propelling motion of bacteria based on the cooperative action of rotating flagella on the surface of bacteria. Describing the ensemble of rotating flagella in the framework of the hydrodynamics with spin the reciprocal theorem of Stokesian hydrodynamics is generalized accordingly. The velocity of the self-propulsion is expressed in terms of the characteristics of the vector field of flagella orientation and it is shown that unusually high velocities of \textit{Thiovulum majus} bacteria may be explained by the cooperative action of the rotating flagella. The expressions obtained enable us to estimate the torque created by the rotary motors of the bacterium and …

Apgādnieka zaudējuma pensijas piešķiršanas problēmas un iespējamie risinājumi

2016

Apgādnieka zaudējuma pensijas regulējumu Latvijā nosaka likums ”Par valsts pensijām”. Tās apjomu ietekmē mirušā apgādnieka iespējamā vecuma pensija un apgādājamo skaits, kam tiek piešķirta apgādnieka zaudējuma pensija. Pētījuma mērķis ir analizējot būtiskākās problēmas apgādnieka zaudējuma pensijas piešķiršanas un aprēķināšanas kārtībā, izstrādāt ieteikumus normatīvo aktu pilnveidošanā un sociālekonomiskās nevienlīdzības mazināšanā. Lai sasniegtu šo mērķi, autors analizēja likuma ”Par valsts pensijām” regulējumu, apkopoja Centrālās statistikas pārvaldes datus, salīdzināja Latvijas regulējumu ar citām valstīm, izzināja eksperta viedokli un apkopoja vairāku personu viedokļus, kuri ir saskāruš…

Assessment of particle suspension conditions in stirred vessels by means of pressure gauge technique

2002

In this work the quantitative assessment of the mass of suspended solid particles in stirred vessels is performed using the Pressure Gauge Technique. This is based on the measurements of the pressure increase on the tank bottom due to the presence of suspended solid particles at any agitation speed. The method has the advantages of not utilising visual observations and of easy and inexpensive application to both laboratory and industrial equipment. Very few data are available in literature and the experimental results collected using the present PGT technique and the correlations here proposed are of considerable academic and industrial interest.

2378, quarto comm…

Non-Linear Hysteretic Instability in Rotating Machinery

2013

The destabilizing influence of the shaft hysteresis on the supercritical whirl of rotating machines can be efficiently counterbalanced by proper external dissipative sources in the supports and/or anisotropic suspension systems. The hysteretic effect may be treated either by dry or viscous models obtaining different but somehow similar results in the hypothesis of small dissipation levels. Thus the linear viscous assumption is often accepted as a crude approximation for a straightforward analysis of the whirling instability. Nevertheless the internal friction should be regarded most likely as non-linear and could be approximated for example by Coulombian models taking thus into account also the releasing effect of some shrink-fit coupling present in the mechanical assembly.

Suspension system performance optimization with discrete design variables

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00158-013-0888-7 Suspension systems on commercial vehicles have become an important feature meeting the requirements from costumers and legislation. The performance of the suspension system is often limited by available catalogue components. Additionally the suspension performance is restricted by the travel speed which highly influences the ride comfort. In this article a suspension system for an articulated dump truck is optimized in sense of reducing elapsed time for two specified duty cycles without violating a certain comfort th…
