A symmetric Galerkin boundary/domain element method for finite elastic deformations

Abstract The Symmetric Galerkin Boundary Element Method (SGBEM) is reformulated for problems of finite elasticity with hyperelastic material and incompressibility, using fundamental solutions related to a (fictitious) homogeneous isotropic and compressible linear elastic material. The proposed formulation contains, besides the standard boundary integrals, domain integrals which account for the problem's nonlinearities through some (fictitious) initial strain and stress fields required to satisfy appropriate “consistency” equations. Original strain energy density functions for modeling of anisotropic soft biological tissue

This thesis has focused on the construction of strain energy densities for describing the non-linear behavior of anisotropic materials such as biological soft tissues (ligaments, tendons, arterial walls, etc.) or fiber-reinforced rubbers. The densities we have proposed have been developed with the mathematical theory of invariant polynomials, particularly the Noether theorem and the Reynolds operator. Our work involved two types of anisotropic materials, the first with a single fiber family and the second with a four-fiber family. Adenocarcinoma of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) is a severe disease. Patients carrying EGFR mutations may benefit from EGFR targeted therapies (e.g.: gefitinib). Recently, it has been shown that sialidase NEU3 directly interacts and regulates EGFR. In this work, we investigate the effect of sialidase NEU3 overexpression on EGFR pathways activation and EGFR targeted therapies sensitivity, in a series of lung cancer cell lines. NEU3 overexpression, forced after transfection, does not affect NSCLC cell viability. We demonstrate that NEU3 overexpression stimulates the ERK pathway but this activation is completely abolished by gefitinib treatment. The Akt pathway is also hyper-activated upo…
