Resilience and Parental Burnout Among Finnish Parents During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Variable and Person-Oriented Approaches.
2021
During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis, different personality characteristics may have influenced parental well-being in different ways. In the present study, we combined variable and person-oriented approaches and examined relationships between resilience, parental burnout, and perfectionism during the lockdown. We first used structural equation modeling to assess the paths between variables. We then used latent profile analysis to examine different profiles of parents based on resilience, perfectionism, and symptoms of parental burnout. Finally, we examined how these profiles differ in terms of relevant background variables. The results showed that resilience predicted par…
Life of a Fatso : Young, Fat and Vulnerable in a Scandinavian Society of Perfection
2020
This chapter offers a close reading of the young adult novel Miss by Synne Sun Loes (2017). The story is about 16-year-old Ea who is at the point of dropping out of school. The title carries a double reference—on the one hand, to Ea’s feeling of being a mis(s)fit and, on the other hand, to her critique of her best friend turning into a ‘Little Miss Perfect’. The analysis discusses two main questions: What has made this teenager from a well-off family so vulnerable? and How is her resistance expressed? The analysis explores how Ea positions herself as an outsider through bodily and social protest, making her both vulnerable and strong, and discusses this in relation to Judith Butler’s (2016)…
Apzinātības saistība ar perfekcionismu pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu mātēm
2019
The impact of two-dimensional perfectionism on burnout and eating disorders in young Finnish athletes : comparison between males and females
2014
Matilda Sorkkila, 2014. The impact of two-dimensional perfectionism on burnout and eating disorders in young Finnish athletes: comparison between males and females. Master’s Thesis in Sport and Exercise Psychology. Department of Sport Sciences. University of Jyväskylä. 40 p. Even though it has been argued that perfectionistic strivings might be adaptive and perfectionistic concerns might be maladaptive in sports, only few studies have viewed these dimensions in relation to athletes’ mental health. Two mental health problems that have been found in elevated amounts in young elite athletes are burnout and eating disorders. It has been proposed that perfectionism might impact the development o…
Perfectionism in eating disorders: Temperament or character? Does perfectionism improve on treatment outcome?
2016
IntroductionPerfectionism is considered a risk factor and is very close related to Eating Disorders (EDs). It estimates heritability of 29-42%. However, it has also been related to psychosocial factors such as the insecure attachment style.ObjectivesTo study the relationship of perfectionism with personality dimensions, its likelihood of improvement and its treatment.AimsTo analyze if Perfectionism is associated with dimensions of Temperament or dimensions of Character and therefore more psychosocial.MethodsParticipants were 151 female outpatients who consecutively started treatment at the Eating Disorders Unit (Ciudad Real University General Hospital). Five Interpersonal Factors Are Predictive of the Response to Treatment of Major Depression With Antidepressants in Primary Care
2018
Introduction: Factors relating to the interpersonal relationship between the patient and their physician and social environment are important components, which contribute to their response to treatment for major depressive disorder. This study aimed to assess the influence of optimism, perfectionism, therapeutic alliance, empathy, social support, and adherence to medication regimen in the response to antidepressant treatments in the context of normal primary care clinical practice.Method: We conducted a prospective study in which 24 primary care physicians administered sertraline or escitalopram to 89 patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder. Self-Esteem, Socially Prescribed Perfectionism, and Parental Burnout
2022
AbstractSocially prescribed perfectionism (SPP) has been shown to be a risk factor for parental burnout (Sorkkila & Aunola, 2020). In the present study, we investigated the moderating role of self-esteem in this association. A total of 479 Finnish mothers of infants filled in questionnaires measuring their self-esteem, SPP, and symptoms of parental burnout. The results of structural equation modelling (SEM) showed that mothers’ self-esteem moderated the effect of SPP on parental burnout: Mothers with high self-esteem were at lower risk of showing burnout symptoms even when SPP co-occurred, whereas for mothers with low self-esteem, the effect of SPP on burnout symptoms was further streng…
Risk Factors for Parental Burnout among Finnish Parents: The Role of Socially Prescribed Perfectionism
2019
Abstract Objectives Although parental burnout can have detrimental consequences to families, the investigation of the syndrome is still in its infancy. The present study investigated what are the key family background variables that contribute to parental burnout among Finnish parents. Moreover, we investigated how self-oriented and socially prescribed perfectionism uniquely and interactively relate to parental burnout over and above the impacts of background variables. Methods Questionnaire-based data was collected from 1725 parents (91% mothers) and analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). Results The results showed that when several family- and child-related background variable…

2016
Pētījumā piedalījās 58 respondenti vecumā no 18-76 gadiem (M=27,56). No tiem - 10 vīrieši un 48 sievietes. Tika izmantotas trīs aptaujas- Spīlbergera trauksmes aptauja (State- Trait Anxiety Inventory), (2004); Perfekcionisma aptauja (Almost Perfect Scale- Revised Short Form; Slaney, Rice, Mobley, Trippi & Ashby, 2001). Beka depresijas aptauja (Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI-II). Pētījuma rezultāti parāda, ka pastāv nozīmīga saistība starp perfekcionisma pretrunām ar trauksmi …
