Poor School Academic Performance and Benign Epilepsy with Centro-Temporal Spikes
2023
Background: Poor academic performance of students with epilepsy seems to be a multifactorial problem related to difficulties in reading, writing, math, and logic skills. Poor school and academic performances refer to learning problems in a specific academic area due to learning disorders and learning difficulties not excluding the ability to learn in a different manner during school and academic life. Sometimes, school, academic difficulties, and Rolandic epilepsy can coexist together, and there may be comorbidities. Consequently, the risk of impaired academic performance in people with epilepsy is high. Methods: This review analyzed the relationship between Benign Epilepsy with Centro-Temp…
Patterns of weight cycling in youth Olympic combat sports: a systematic review
2022
Abstract Background Patterns of weight cycling in adult combat sports have been extensively studied, yet data on this matter in youth combat athletes is rather scarce. Methods PubMed, EBSCOhost and Web of Science were used to retrieve relevant data. Eligible studies had to record the methods used to elicit rapid weight loss (RWL) and/or record the oscillations in bodyweight during the RWL phase. Only studies conducted in the context of an official competition were considered for inclusion in the present review. Results RWL is highly prevalent in children and adolescent combat athletes, ranging from 25 to 94% depending on the type of combat sport, age and level of competition. These athletes…
Alemtuzumab Plus Oral Dexamethasone, Followed by Alemtuzumab Maintenance or Allogeneic Transplantation in Ultra High-Risk CLL: Updated Results From a…
2012
Abstract Abstract 716 CLL patients characterized by 17p-, TP53 mutation or refractoriness to fludarabine (F)-based therapy show a very poor prognosis (“ultra high-risk CLL”). Although alemtuzumab (A) showed efficacy in these cohorts, the rate and duration of remissions remain unsatisfactory. Aim of the CLL2O study was to achieve higher overall response rates (ORR) by adding high-dose dexamethasone (D) to A during induction and investigating the consolidation effect of prolonged A or allogeneic stem-cell transplantation (allo-SCT), respectively. Induction treatment consisted of subcutaneous A, 30 mg weekly × 3 for 28 days, combined with oral D, 40 mg on days 1–4 and 15–18, and prophylactic p…

Søskenpar i toppidretten : Er det prestasjonsfremmende å være søskenpar på elitenivå i skiskyting?
2017
Masteroppgave idrettsvitenskap ME517 - Universitetet i Agder 2017 The purpose of this study was to acquire more knowledge of whether the sibling relationship can increase the chances of success in elite sport. The sample consists of two pairs of siblings where all four are former elite athletes in Biathlon and has achieved international titles at senior level. All four has been part of the national elite team of Norwegian Biathlon Association for several years. The collection of information done using qualitative research, and the interviews has taken part individually using an in-depth, semi-structured approach. Data from the interviews where analysed trough a phenomenological approach. St…
Determination of phenytoin in plasma by molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction.
2001
Abstract A molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) using phenytoin as template and methacrylamide as the functional monomer was prepared. The selectivity was measured by comparing capacity factors of phenytoin and other structurally related compounds. The polymer was evaluated as a selective sorbent in molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE). Several washing solvents were tested to study their ability to disrupt the non-specific interactions occurring between the sample and the polymer matrix and the role of water in the recognition process was also investigated. It was shown that the key step of successful sample extraction is the right choice of the washing solvent. Plasma sample…

An Optimized and Rapid DNA Extraction Method From Leaves of Grapevine Suitable for PCR-DGGE Based Analysis
2010
Molecular techniques and genetic studies require a fair amount of DNA of high quality in order to produce reliable and clear results (Li et al., 2007). In grapevine, the yield and quality of DNA can be significantly affected by secondary metabolites such as polyphenols, polysaccharides and tannins, that may be consistently abundant during the different stages of leaf development (Iandolino et al., 2004). The development of a simple, rapid and reliable method for the extraction of genomic DNA from grape leaves collected at several stages during development, as well as from healthy grape leaves and leaves infected by pathogenic microorganisms, was the main objective of this study. The protoco…
UDP-glucosyltransferase activity toward exogenous substrates in Drosophila melanogaster.
1991
To investigate the capacity of Drosophila extracts to glucosylate exogenous substrates we have developed a fast and sensitive method for the detection of UDP-glucosyltransferase activity using 4-nitrophenol, 1-naphthol, or 2-naphthol as substrates. High-performance liquid chromatography was used to separate and quantitate the reaction products, allowing detection of activities that produced as little as 1 pmol of 2-naphthol glucoside (fluorescence detection) or 16 pmol of 4-nitrophenol glucoside (absorbance detection). Optimal activity was found at 43 degrees C and alkaline pH. The affinity of the Drosophila enzyme was 250-fold higher for 1-naphthol or 2-naphthol (Km approximately 4 microM)…
Metabolomic Diversity of Human Milk Cells over the Course of Lactation—A Preliminary Study
2023
Human milk (HM) is a complex biofluid containing a wide cell variety including epithelial cells and leukocytes. However, the cellular compositions and their phenotypic properties over the course of lactation are poorly understood. The aim of this preliminary study was to characterize the cellular metabolome of HM over the course of lactation. Cells were isolated via centrifugation and the cellular fraction was characterized via cytomorphology and immunocytochemical staining. Cell metabolites were extracted and analyzed using ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC–QqTOF-MS) in the positive and negative electrospray ionization mode…
