Background The aim of this study was to evaluate myocardial perfusion and coronary blood flow through validated angiography indices to assess whether there is greater MVD in patients with microvascular angina and HFPEF compared to those who do not have. Methods Our study was performed on a population of 286 patients with stable angina that underwent coronary angiography and echocardiography. Gastric acid secretory responses induced by peptone are mediated by capsaicin-sensitive sensory afferent neurons

The involvement of capsaicin-sensitive afferent neurons in modulating acid-secretory responses to peptone, a product of protein digestion, has been investigated in the continuously perfused stomach of the urethan-anesthetized rat. Systemic neonatal pretreatment with capsaicin, which destroys primary afferent neurons, does not modify basal levels of acid secretion. Acid responses to intragastric perfusion with isotonic (0.5, 1, and 2.4%) or hypertonic (10 and 20%) solutions of peptone were reduced in capsaicin-treated rats. Postischemic application of lipid peroxidation inhibitor U-101033E reduces neuronal damage after global cerebral ischemia in rats.

Background and Purpose —The lipid peroxidation inhibitor U-101033E was examined for effects on cerebral blood flow (CBF), cortical tissue hemoglobin oxygen saturation (HbS o 2 ), and neuronal damage. Methods —Fifteen minutes of global cerebral ischemia was induced by two-vessel occlusion and hypobaric hypotension. Accumulation of hydroxyethyl starch (HES) in the liver of patients with renal failure and portal hypertension

Summary Hydroxyethyl starch (HES) has gained wide clinical acceptance as a colloidal plasma substitute. We were able to study the liver biopsies of two patients with renal failure who developed ascites after repeated infusions of HES. All types of liver cells displayed massive accumulation of HES with the morphologic resemblance to a storage disease. These changes could be distinguished clearly from the lesions of a hereditary disorder by light and electron microscopy. Although it is difficult to establish a causative role for HES in the development of ascites on the bases of morphological changes alone, one should be cautious about giving HES to patients with renal failure until exact data…
