Testing a theoretically-based overland flow resistance law by Emmett’s database

Abstract The main aim of this paper was to test a recently theoretically deduced flow resistance equation, based on a power-velocity profile, using a wide database of available measurements carried out in laboratory and field experimental runs with overland flow under simulated rainfall. Perimeter symmetrization of some dynamic and stationary equations involving the Monge-Ampère operator

We apply the perimeter symmetrization to a two-dimensional pseudo-parabolic dynamic problem associated to the Monge-Ampere operator as well as to the second order elliptic problem which arises after an implicit time discretization of the dynamical equation. Curiously, the dynamical problem corresponds to a third order operator but becomes a singular second order parabolic equation (involving the 3-Laplacian operator) in the class of radially symmetric convex functions. Using symmetrization techniques some quantitative comparison estimates and several qualitative properties of solutions are given.
Gamma-convergence of Gaussian fractional perimeter

Abstract We prove the Γ-convergence of the renormalised Gaussian fractional s-perimeter to the Gaussian perimeter as s → 1 - {s\to 1^{-}} . Our definition of fractional perimeter comes from that of the fractional powers of Ornstein–Uhlenbeck operator given via Bochner subordination formula. As a typical feature of the Gaussian setting, the constant appearing in front of the Γ-limit does not depend on the dimension.

The sensitivity of the central visual field (0°–30°) was studied using an automatic Octopus 500E perimeter in elderly male athletes and in a population sample of men of corresponding age. The athletes (N=96) were endurance and power athletes, who were still active in competitive sports with training histories spanning tens of years. The athletes’ results were compared with those of a sample of men of the same age (70–81 years, N=41) randomly selected from the local population register. PURPOSE: This study aimed to assess the prognostic implications of uT3 rectal carcinomas according to the tumor thickness and to analyze the correlation between this ultrasound-based parameter and other prognostic factors. METHODS: Seventy-four patients with uT3(pM0) rectal tumors underwent primary surgery from 1996 to 2003. Preoperative endorectal ultrasound was used to assess uN stage, maximum tumor perimeter, and maximum tumor thickness.
