The first recorded protozygopteran insects from the Upper Permian of France

1999

. The earliest known Odonatoptera: Protozygoptera from the Upper Permian of Lodeve (France) are described. Epilestes gallica sp. nov. belongs to the Permolestidae and Lodevia longialata gen. et sp. nov. to the Permepallagidae. Both of these families were previously known from the Kazanian of Russia, suggesting a similar age for the formation of Lodeve.

Discovery of the genus Iasvia Zalessky, 1934 in the Upper Permian of France (Lodève basin) (Orthoptera, Ensifera, Oedischiidae)

2002

Abstract New material attributed to the species Iasvia reticulata ZALESSKY, 1934 and to a new species in this genus is described from the Salagou Formation (Saxonian Group, Lodeve basin). Preamble to the taxonomic section, the wing venation pattern of Orthoptera is discussed. The numerous described specimens yield decisive information about variability of wing venation within the genus, previously based on a single specimen from the Russian Permian. I. reticulata is the first species from the Lodeve basin that is already known from another site. The biostratigraphic implications are discussed.

Collapse structures in the Permian of the Saar-Nahe area, Southwest Germany

1971

Volcanic breccias near an intrusive rhyolite dome in the Permian Saar-Nahe trough of southwest Germany have been identified as complex pipe-like subsidence-structures occupying the site and immediate neighbourhood of “explosive” volcanoes.

Palaeozoic evolution of the North Tianshan based on palaeomagnetic data – transition from Gondwana towards Pangaea

2017

We present new palaeomagnetic data for Cambrian and Ordovician volcanic and sedimentary rocks from the Kyrgyz North Tianshan (NTS) and review available data from the southwestern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) to elucidate the tectonic history and evolution of this region during the early Palaeozoic. We observed a coherent evolution of the NTS and the Kazakhstan continent (or Kazakhstania) with a constant northwards movement between the Cambrian and Devonian at ∼5 cm/a. After the northwards movement ceased in the Devonian, the accreted terrane assemblage of Kazakhstania occupied a stable latitudinal position at ∼30°N until the final amalgamation of Eurasia occurred in the late Carbonife…

NEW DATA ON PALEOZOIC GRYLLOBLATTID INSECTS (NEOPTERA)

2005

Abstract The paraphyletic group Grylloblattida, formerly included in the Protorthoptera sensu lato, is of great importance for the phylogeny of some ‘polyneopterous’ orders, because it is currently assumed to contain the sister groups of modern Plecoptera (stoneflies) and Grylloblattodea. We present new discoveries and new observations and interpretations concerning this crucial assemblage. Lodevopterum angustus new genus and species and Depressopterum minutus new species are described from the Upper Permian of the Lodeve Basin (Herault, France). The ‘Grylloblattida’ from Commentry (Allier, France; Upper Carboniferous) are revised: the family Protoblattinidae Meunier, 1909a is restored afte…

Problems of the Continental Permian in the Federal Republic of Germany

1976

The occurrences of Continental Permian in the Federal Republic of Germany are generally well understood but some problems remain. These are outlined and discussed in the present paper.

Discussion on Palaeozoic discontinuities in the Kuh-e Surmeh area (Zagros, Iran).

2015

20 pages; International audience; Evidence of several major unconformities in the Lower Palaeozoic succession in Iran lead to question the role of tectonic/eustatism/climate in terms of their formation. The studied Palaeozoic succession in the Kuh-e Surmeh Anticline is characterized by the preservation of two thin Ordovician and Lower Permian Formations separated by a large hiatus encompassing the Upper Ordovician up to the lowermost Permian. The Ordovician sequences were deposited in shallow shoreface to lower offshore environments and the Lower Permian corresponds to a wave-dominated estuarine system evolving to a delta system. These mainly clastic successions represent good reservoirs in…

The Nahe Caldera — A resurgent Caldera in the permocarboniferous Saar Nahe basin, SW-Germany

1984

In the Saar Nahe basin, SW-Germany, a large resurgent caldera complex of Lower Permian age was recognized recently, for which the name „Nahe Caldera” is proposed.

Palaeoenvironmental andstratigraphic aspects of animal traces and plant remains in Spanish Permian red beds (Peña Sagra, Cantabrian Mountains, Spain)

1997

Abstract Various vertebrate and invertebrate traces and plants remains have been discovered in the Permian of Pico Paraes (Cantabrian Mountains). They occur in the Sagra Formation, a 400 m thick unit consisting of a vertical alternation of channels with conglomeratic sandstones and fossiliferous red siltstones with a caliche horizon at the top. The most common trace is Hyloidichnus major which is attributed to approximately 50 cm long Captorhinomorphs. Other tracks provisionally assigned to Limnopus could also indicate the presence of Temnospondyls. The bedding planes with traces also show some tracks of Isopodichnus cf. minutus which is ascribed to small triopsid crustaceans. Like the foot…

Detrital zircon and micropalaeontological ages as new constraints for the lowermost tectonic unit (Talea Ori unit) of Crete, Greece

2007

The Talea Ori unit is the lowermost known tectonic unit of Crete and the most external part of the Hellenides. Its stratigraphy ranges from Late Carboniferous to Oligocene and outcrops of the lower part are only known in the Talea Ori mountains (central Crete). In this area, a black sandstone at the base of the Galinos Beds, thought to be the oldest formation, contains zircons which were dated using the single grain evaporation method. The majority of these grains yielded Late Carboniferous ages (Variscan), while a small group yielded Early Proterozoic ages. The age distribution of these zircons suggests that, at the Carboniferous–Permian boundary, not much of the older North Gondwanan base…
