We strongly develop the relationship between complex hyperbolic geometry and arithmetic counting or equidistribution applications, that arises from the action of arithmetic groups on complex hyperbolic spaces, especially in dimension $2$. We prove a Mertens' formula for the integer points over a quadratic imaginary number fields $K$ in the light cone of Hermitian forms, as well as an equidistribution theorem of the set of rational points over $K$ in Heisenberg groups. Force-induced diffusion in microrheology

We investigate the force-induced diffusive motion of a tracer particle inside a glass-forming suspension when a strong external force is applied to the probe (active nonlinear microrheology). A schematic model of mode-coupling theory introduced recently is extended to describe the transient dynamics of the probe particle, and used to analyze recent molecular-dynamics simulation data. The model describes non-trivial transient displacements of the probe before a steady-state velocity is reached. The external force also induces diffusive motion in the direction perpendicular to its axis. Conical connection adjustment in prosthetic abutments obtained by different techniques

Background The goal of this study is to compare the misfit (>150µm) generated once the restoration, made by different techniques, is retained to a single conical implant. Material and methods 15 internal connection implants (MIS C1 4'20x10mm) are embedded each one perpendicularly to an horizontal surface of the 1x1x2cm poliuretan resin model. The 15 samples obtained are divided in 5 groups depending on the framework process (n=3): 1/casting, 2/overcasting, 3/Ti-base, 4/milling and 5/laser sintering. Abstract Using synchrotron-based stroboscopic photoemission electron microscopy with X-ray circular dichroism as contrast method, we have investigated the high-frequency response of permalloy thin-film structures. Standing precessional modes have been studied in rectangular elements (16 × 32 μm 2 , 10 nm thick) with a high time resolution of about 15 ps in the low- α mode of BESSY. Self-Trapping of Magnetic Oscillation Modes in Landau Flux-Closure Structures

We investigated the magnetodynamics in rectangular Permalloy platelets by means of time-resolved x-ray photoemission microscopy. 10 nm thick platelets of size 16 x 32 microm were excited by an oscillatory field along the short side of the sample with a fundamental frequency of 500 MHz and considerable contributions of higher harmonics. Under the influence of the oscillatory field, the Néel wall in the initial classical Landau pattern shifts away from the center, corresponding to an induced magnetic moment perpendicular to the exciting field. This phenomenon is explained by a self-trapping effect of the dominating spin-wave mode when the system is excited just below the resonance frequency. …
Magnetic surface anisotropies in NiFe-alloy films: separation of intrinsic Néel-type from strain relaxation contributions

Abstract Magnetic surface anisotropies (MSA) in NiFe/Cu(1 1 1) films were investigated experimentally, for varying compositions of the NiFe alloy. By restricting the measurements to the pseudomorphic range, the pure intrinsic Neel-type anisotropy could be isolated without strain relaxation contributions. The intrinsic MSA of the xNi(1−x)Fe/Cu(1 1 1) interface varies linearly with composition x between easy plane for pure Ni to perpendicular for x=60 and 48%. It vanishes near the permalloy composition x=80%.

AbstractIn a nuclear waste repository, rock in the excavation-disturbed zone adjacent to the walls of deposition holes for waste canisters is a potential pathway for the transport of corrosive agents and radionuclides. Three experimental holes the size of deposition holes in a KBS-3 type repository (depth 7.5 m and diameter 1.5 m) were bored in hard granitic rock in the Research Tunnel at Olkiluoto and the porosities, effective diffusivities and permeabilities of rock in the excavation-disturbed zone were determined in a direction parallel to the disturbed surface using He-gas methods. Semi-flexible polymer chains in quasi-one-dimensional confinement: a Monte Carlo study on the square lattice

Single semi-flexible polymer chains are modeled as self-avoiding walks (SAWs) on the square lattice with every 90° kink requiring an energy eb. While for eb = 0 this is the ordinary SAW, varying the parameter qb = exp(−eb/kBT) allows the variation of the effective persistence length p over about two decades. Using the pruned-enriched Rosenbluth method (PERM), chain lengths up to about N = 105 steps can be studied. Molecular-dynamics simulations are presented for systems of densely grafted semiflexible macromolecules grafted to a planar non-adsorbing substrate, studying the case where the persistence length of the polymers is of the same order as their contour length so that the polymer brush may exhibit nematic order. We focus our attention on the case where the first bond must orient perpendicularly to the substrate (so the structure resembles a "Fakir's bed" for short chains and a "polymer bristle" for longer chains).
