Self-worth contingencies and obsessionality: A promising approach to vulnerability?

2012

Abstract Cognitive behavioral theories (CBT) posit deficiencies in selfhood processes as possible vulnerability factors for obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD). This paper presents two psychometric studies on the development of the Obsessional Concerns and Self Questionnaire (OCSQ), a measure of failure to attain self-worth in personal domains relevant to obsessionality. In the first study based on 563 community Spaniards, principal factor analysis of an 80 item pool resulted in a three factor solution and a final 35 item version (OCSQ-r). In the second study self-worth and symptom measures were administered to 152 Spanish, 142 Argentinean and 112 Canadian nonclinical samples. Group compari…

Multiplayer 3D Game in Supporting Team-Building Activities in a Work Organization

2012

The aim of this study was to enhance and analyze communication and team-building activities in work teams that played a 3D multiplayer game. This paper reports the preliminary findings of the multi-methodological empirical study on players' perceived effects of the game play on team-building.

Differential Learning as a Key Training Approach to Improve Creative and Tactical Behavior in Soccer

2018

The aim of this study was to identify the effects of a differential-learning program, embedded in small-sided games, on the creative and tactical behavior of youth soccer players. Forty players from under-13 (U13) and under-15 (U15) were allocated into control and experimental groups and were tested using a randomized pretest to posttest design using small-sided games situations. The experimental group participated in a 5-month differential-learning program embodied in small-sided games situations, while the control group participated in a typical small-sided games training program. In-game creativity was assessed through notational analyses of the creative components, and the players' posit…

Characterizing the collective personality of ant societies: aggressive colonies do not abandon their home.

2011

Animal groups can show consistent behaviors or personalities just like solitary animals. We studied the collective behavior of Temnothorax nylanderi ant colonies, including consistency in behavior and correlations between different behavioral traits. We focused on four collective behaviors (aggression against intruders, nest relocation, removal of infected corpses and nest reconstruction) and also tested for links to the immune defense level of a colony and a fitness component (per-capita productivity). Behaviors leading to an increased exposure of ants to micro-parasites were expected to be positively associated with immune defense measures and indeed colonies that often relocated to other…

Nonlocal Quantum XOR Games for Large Number of Players

2010

Nonlocal games are used to display differences between classical and quantum world In this paper, we study nonlocal games with a large number of players We give simple methods for calculating the classical and the quantum values for symmetric XOR games with one-bit input per player, a subclass of nonlocal games We illustrate those methods on the example of the N-player game (due to Ardehali [Ard92]) that provides the maximum quantum-over-classical advantage.

Games without repetitions on graphs with vertex disjoint cycles

1997

Games without repetitions on graphs with vertex disjoint cycles are considered. We show that the problem finding of the game partition in this class reduces to this problem for trees. A method of finding of the game partition for trees have been given in [2].

DAQs-based wattmeters for high accuracy measurements. Comparison with the Italian power primary standard

2013

Abstract This paper is focused on the use of data acquisition boards (DAQs) for the development of high accuracy PC-based instruments for the measurements of electrical power. The proposed systems are simple, portable and low cost because they are based on commercial data acquisition boards (DAQs) connected to a common personal computer. Data processing is carried out by a commercial software based on an interpolating windowed FFT. In the paper it is shown how the voltage can be sensed directly, thanks to the DAQ input range, thus avoiding expensive voltage dividers. The set up of the DAQs-based solutions is described and the evaluation of their metrological features is made by means of a c…

Evolution of secondary software product businesses: Momentum of concurrent enterprising

2005

A growing part of commercial software production is provided by the so-called secondary software industry, involving both software products and services offered by other industries than the actual software industry, i.e. the primary industry. We have been investigating the evolution of businesses in the secondary software industry in two phases, first by developing a framework to analyse the change of host industries from closed and vertical to open and horizontal especially in terms of software products. Secondly, we have studied a set of selected industries in a pivotal era called the momentum of concurrent enterprising in this paper. The key finding is: the value creation is moving towar…

Bullying at School and in the Workplace: A Challenge for Communication Research

2006

In this chapter, previous literature concerning school bullying and workplace harassment is reviewed from a communication perspective. The chapter details the seriousness and extensiveness of bullying, among both children at school and adults at work. We intend to provoke discussion of how communication research and theory might help us in understanding and explaining bullying. As elaborated here, bullying appears in interaction situations, mostly in the forms of verbal and nonverbal communication; it exists in the interpersonal relationship of bully and victim, and it can be associated with group communication processes and the structuration of groups, as well as with organizational and cu…
