This study investigated pre- to in-pandemic changes in health behaviors and depressive symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic and the role of personality traits in these changes in Finland. Abstract Although prior research has shown a relationship between the Big Five personality factors and trait anger, evidence that links these personality traits to the experience of state anger is rare. The Impact of Personality and Motivation on Immersion in Simulation Games

The cognitive-motivational process model of learning describes how personality traits in a specific situation influence current learner motivation and through certain mediators, the learning outcome. This study investigates the influence of personality traits and current motivation on these mediators. For 86 high school students playing a simulation game, the Big Five, the need for cognition, current motivations, immersion, and joy of learning were measured. A hierarchical regression analysis showed that need for cognition, interest, and challenge significantly and positively impacts the experienced immersion. Research Note: A Cross-Cultural Validation of Brand Personality Scales in Norway

Cross-cultural non-replicability of brand personality dimensions is undoubtedly a concern for researchers. This research note assesses the validity of two brand personality measurement scales presented by Aaker (1997) and Geuens et al. (2009) in Norway. Confirmatory factor analysis results revealed that, compared to Aaker (1997), Geuens et al.’s (2009) measurement model performs better in the Norwegian context. Overall, the paper illustrates the need for more rigorous reliability assessments when researchers adopt brand personality dimensions in studies outside the US.

Interactive effects of state anxiety and trait anxiety on emotional Stroop interference

This study examined main, interaction, and quadratic effects of state and trait anxiety on attentional bias toward threat related stimuli. Students (n=121) completed a card version of an emotional Stroop task. While there were no main effects for trait anxiety or state anxiety, regression analyses revealed a significant contribution of the interaction term of both variables. Only for individuals high in trait anxiety, was state anxiety positively related to Stroop interference. In contrast, the low anxious group showed the opposite response pattern. Deceit and facial expression in children: the enabling role of the “poker face” child and the dependent personality of the detector

This study presents the relation between the facial expression of a group of children when they told a lie and the accuracy in detecting the lie by a sample of adults. To evaluate the intensity and type of emotional content of the children’s faces, we applied an automated method capable of analyzing the facial information from the video recordings (FaceReader 5.0 software). The program classified videos as showing a neutral facial expression or an emotional one.
