The author carries out a comparative analysis of Wacław Berents “Winter Crop” (Ozimina) and Thomas Manns “The Magic Mountain” (Der Zauberberg). Although the two compared novels are of different historical and cultural backgrounds, she shows things that they have in common. The analysis does not concentrate on the interrelations that were realised at the time but on tracking down the sources of the two writers’ imagination, intellectual fascinations, disturbing similarities (and obvious differences) that led to building up the world they created and also in the finesse of their language. Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten myöhäiskeski-iän elämänasenteet ja -odotukset ovat yhteydessä fyysiseen toimintakykyyn myöhemmällä iällä. Lisäksi tarkasteltiin, ovatko elämänasenteet ja -odotukset yhteydessä fyysiseen toimintakykyyn vielä silloinkin, kun otetaan huomioon muut tunnetut toimintakyvyn riskitekijät, kuten ikä, sukupuoli, sosioekonominen asema ja koettu terveys. Tutkielman aineistona käytettiin Helsingin syntymäkohorttitutkimuksen (The Helsinki Birth Cohort Study) aineistoa vuosilta 2001–2011. en este artículo presento la relación entre la filosofía política y la antropología filosófica en la obra de Arthur Schopenhauer. en primer lugar, abordo brevemente lo que se puede denominar el pesimismo antropológico schopenhaueriano, visión negativa de la humanidad que marca su filosofía política, centrada sobre todo en la crítica del egoísmo.
