Trifocal toric intraocular lenses in eyes with low amount of corneal astigmatism.

Aim To evaluate the refractive and visual outcomes following cataract surgery and implantation of a trifocal toric intraocular lens (IOL) in eyes with low degrees of corneal astigmatism. Methods Twenty-six eyes of 22 patients who underwent implantation a trifocal toric IOL (FineVision PODFT, PhysIOL s.a., Liege, Belgium) were enrolled. Phacoemulsification with femtosecond laser, capsular tension ring insertion and intraoperative aberrometry were performed in all cases. All IOLs used showed a cylinder power of 1.00 D. Abstract Purpose To compare the incidence and severity of photic phenomena after the implantation of the Array® (Allergan) refractive multifocal intraocular lens (MIOL) and a monofocal IOL. Introduction The phacoemulsification cataract surgery is the most frequently performed surgery and it generally improves vision in over 90% of the patients. Hyperopic patients are a challenge during phacoemulsification especially because of their short eyeball and shallow anterior chamber. Objective: To study the anterior chamber contamination during non-complicated cataract surgery and its relationship with normal conjuctival organisms. Setting: Ophthalmology Department, La Fe Hospital, University of Valencia. Patients: Forty patients who had undergone cataract extraction using either ECCE, phacoemulsification or nucleus fracture methods. Results: Positive cultures of aqueous humour were obtained in 32.5% of cases. The most commonly isolated organism was Staphylococcus coagulase-negative. Abstract We present a 62-year-old woman who had implantation of an intraocular lens (IOL) with a torus of 30.0 diopters (D) in an eye after penetrating keratoplasty. The patient presented with cataract and a best corrected visual acuity of 20/400. Penetrating keratoplasty was performed in 1975 because of decompensated keratoconus. With a clear but inferiorly decentered corneal graft, visual acuity was limited because of keratoplasty-related high corneal astigmatism of 22.5@156 that could not be successfully treated with spectacles or contact lenses. Purpose To assess visual and refractive results after bilateral implantation of a trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) in patients with hyperopia. Methods In a retrospective nonrandomized study, 196 eyes of 98 patients had bilateral implantation of a trifocal IOL. The Barrett Universal II formula was used for IOL power calculation. Eyes were divided into two groups for their analysis: low-moderate, with IOL power ranging from 22 to 26 D, and high, with IOL power ranging from 25 to 34 D.
