Short range charge/orbital ordering in La1−xSrxMn1−zBzO3 (B = Cu,Zn) manganites

2005

We have measured the reflectivity spectra of La1−x SrxMn1−zBzO3 (B = Cu, Zn; 0.17 x 0.30; 0 z 0.10) manganites over wide frequency (100–4000 cm −1 )a nd temperature (80–300 K) ranges. Besides the previously observed infrared active modes or mode pairs at about 160 cm −1 (external mode), 350 cm −1 (bond bending mode) and 590 cm −1 (bond stretching mode), we have clearly observed two additional phonon modes at about 645 and 720 cm −1 below the temperature T1 (T1 < TC), which coincides with the phase transition temperature when the system transforms from ferromagnetic metallic into a ferromagnetic insulator state. This transition is related to the formation of short range charge/orbitally orde…

Surface-induced disordering at first-order transitions in body-centered cubic binary alloys: A Monte-Carlo simulation

1990

Surface effects on the phase transition from theDO3 phase to the disordered phase are studied for a bcc Ising antiferromagnet with nearest and next-nearest neighbor exchange interactions in a magnetic field. This model can also be considered to represent binary alloys such as the FeAl-system; missing interactions near the surface translate then into surface magnetic fields. The change of the local magnetization near the surface then corresponds to “surface enrichment” of one component. For a plausible choice of parameters surface-induced disordering is found and the associated critical behavior is studied. Varying the bulk fieldH near the transition fieldHc, we find that the thickness of th…

The formation of silica high temperature polymorphs from quartz: Influence of grain size and mineralising agents

2015

Abstract The formation of high-temperature silica polymorphs in presence of Na and K has been studied at various temperatures and soaking times, starting from quartzes of different grain size, ex situ as well as in situ. The results show that cristobalite and tridymite formation is strongly influenced by the nature and the amount of mineraliser added. In particular, K seems to discriminate more between the two structures, as it produces the largest observed amount of cristobalite. The disappearance of quartz can be controlled by the proper combination of mineraliser/temperature/time, which in turn control the amount and the type of polymorph formed, together with the amount of amorphous mat…

Effects of heat treatments on the properties of copper phthalocyanine films deposited by glow-discharge-induced sublimation

2006

Copper phthalocyanine films have been deposited by glow-discharge-induced sublimation. The films have undergone postdeposition heat treatments in air at 250 and 290 °C for different times, ranging from 30 min to 14 h. The properties of as-deposited and heated films have been investigated by different techniques in order to determine the effects of heat treatments on the film properties. Fourier transform infrared analysis and UV−visible optical absorption analysis point out a gradual evolution of the film structure from a mixture of α and β polymorphs to the only β polymorph in the sample heated at 290 °C for 14 h. A pronounced decrease of carbon and nitrogen atomic percentages against an o…

Room-Temperature Cubic Phase Crystallization and High Stability of Vacuum-Deposited Methylammonium Lead Triiodide Thin Films for High-Efficiency Sola…

2019

Methylammonium lead triiodide (MAPI) has emerged as a high-performance photovoltaic material. Common understanding is that at room temperature it adopts a tetragonal phase and it only converts to the perfect cubic phase around 50-60 ºC. Most MAPI films are prepared using a solution-based coating process, yet they can also be obtained by vapor phase deposition methods. Vapor phase processed MAPI films have significantly different characteristics compared to their solvent processed analogous, such as a relatively small crystal grain sizes and short excited state lifetimes. Yet solar cells based on vapor phase processed MAPI films exhibit high power conversion efficiencies. Surprisingly, after…

Ordering of fluorite-type phases in erbium-doped oxyfluoride glass ceramics

2018

In this study, novel transparent Er3+ doped glass ceramics were prepared from melt-quenched oxyfluoride glasses with general composition of Na2O-NaF-BaF2-YbF3-Al2O3-SiO2. The crystallization of fluorite (BaF2, BaF2-YbF3, NaF-BaF2-YbF3 and Na0.5-xYb0.5+xF2+2x) and distorted fluorite (rhombohedral Ba4Yb3F17 and tetragonal NaF-BaF2-YbF3) phases was analysed in glass ceramics with different BaF2 and YbF3 ratio. The phase composition and microstructure were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Intense red upconversion luminescence (UCL) was detected under near-infrared excitation resulting from three photon upconversion followed by cross-relaxation betw…

Dual-source vacuum deposition of pure and mixed halide 2D perovskites: thin film characterization and processing guidelines

2020

The dual-source vacuum deposition of 2D perovskite films of the type PEA2PbX4, (PEA = phenethylammonium and X = I−, Br−, or a combination of both) is presented. Low-temperature deposited 2D perovskite films showed high crystallinity with the expected trend of bandgap as a function of halide type and concentration. Importantly, we observed an unavoidable halide cross-contamination among different deposition runs, as well as a strong dependence of the material quality on the type of halide precursors used. These findings should be taken into account in the development of vacuum processing for low-dimensional mixed halide perovskites.

Efficient Wide-Bandgap Mixed-Cation and Mixed-Halide Perovskite Solar Cells by Vacuum Deposition

2021

Vacuum deposition methods are increasingly applied to the preparation of perovskite films and devices, in view of the possibility to prepare multilayer structures at low temperature. Vacuum-deposited, wide-bandgap solar cells based on mixed-cation and mixed-anion perovskites have been scarcely reported, due to the challenges associated with the multiple-source processing of perovskite thin films. In this work, we describe a four-source vacuum deposition process to prepare wide-bandgap perovskites of the type FA1-n Cs n Pb(I1-x Br x )3 with a tunable bandgap and controlled morphology, using FAI, CsI, PbI2, and PbBr2 as the precursors. The simultaneous sublimation of PbI2 and PbBr2 allows the…

Catenanes and threaded systems: from solution to surfaces

2009

Functional catenanes and threaded systems able to perform controllable mechanical motions are ideally suited for the design of molecular devices displaying mechanical, electronic, information or sensing functions. These systems have been extensively studied in solution phase and numerous examples of stimuli-driven molecular shuttles have been reported. However, for fully developing their potential applications, they must be interfaced with the macroscopic world. To achieve this objective, in the last few years catenanes and rotaxanes have been organized over surfaces in the form of chemisorbed monolayers or physisorbed monolayers, multilayers and thin films. This tutorial review summarizes …

Melting and Freezing Lines for a Mixture of Charged Colloidal Spheres with Spindle-Type Phase Diagram

2010

We have measured the phase behavior of a binary mixture of like-charged colloidal spheres with a size ratio of 0.9 and a charge ratio of 0.96 as a function of particle number density n and composition p. Under exhaustively deionized conditions the aqueous suspension forms solid solutions of body centered cubic structure for all compositions. The freezing and melting lines as a function of composition show opposite behavior and open a wide, spindle shaped coexistence region. Lacking more sophisticated treatments, we model the interaction in our mixtures as an effective one-component pair energy accounting for number weighted effective charge and screening constant. Using this description, we…
