Microphysical and radiative characterization of a subvisible midlevel Arctic ice cluod by airborne observations - a case study
2009
During the Arctic Study of Tropospheric Aerosol, Clouds and Radiation (ASTAR) campaign, which was conducted in March and April 2007, an optically thin ice cloud was observed south of Svalbard at around 3 km altitude. The microphysical and radiative properties of this particular subvisible midlevel cloud were investigated with complementary remote sensing and in situ instruments. Collocated airborne lidar remote sensing and spectral solar radiation measurements were performed at a flight altitude of 2300 m below the cloud base. Under almost stationary atmospheric conditions, the same subvisible midlevel cloud was probed with various in situ sensors roughly 30 min later. <br><br> …
Observable geometric phase induced by a cyclically evolving dissipative process
2006
In a prevous paper (Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 150403 (2006)) we have proposed a new way to generate an observable geometric phase on a quantum system by means of a completely incoherent phenomenon. The basic idea was to force the ground state of the system to evolve ciclically by "adiabatically" manipulating the environment with which it interacts. The specific scheme we have previously analyzed, consisting of a multilevel atom interacting with a broad-band squeezed vacuum bosonic bath whose squeezing parameters are smoothly changed in time along a closed loop, is here solved in a more direct way. This new solution emphasizes how the geometric phase on the ground state of the system is indeed du…

Cloud top altitude retrieved from Lidar measurements during ACLOUD at 1 second resolution
2021
During the ACLOUD aircraft campaign (23.5.2017 - 26.6.2017) the AMALi Lidar was installed mostly nadir pointing. This dataset contains the cloud top altitude from those measurements (altitudes with a strong signal increase) as well as a cloud mask, derived from the optical depth of the column at 1 second resolution. The majority of the data was collected northwest of the Svalbard archipelago. More details on the campaign can be found in Wendisch 2018 and Ehrlich 2019 and here (https://home.uni-leipzig.de/~ehrlich/ACLOUD_wiki_doku). Please check the data documentation (https://download.pangaea.de/reference/108729/attachments/readme_documentation_AMALi_cloudtop.pdf) before using this dataset.

Measured amplitude and phase values for the $I=1/2$ $K \pi$ $\mathcal{S}$-wave as functions of mass obtained from the Model Independent Partial Wave Analysis (MIPWA) of $\eta_c \to K^0_{\scriptscriptstyle S} K^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}$. The amplitudes and phases in the mass interval 14 are fixed to constant values.

Measured amplitude and phase values for the $I=1/2$ $K \pi$ $\mathcal{S}$-wave as functions of mass obtained from the Model Independent Partial Wave Analysis (MIPWA) of $\eta_c \to K^+ K^- \pi^0$. The amplitudes and phases in the mass interval 14 are fixed to constant values.

The $S$-wave phase $\delta_{S}$ measured in the 12 $m_{K\pi}$ bins with statistical and systematic uncertainties. The systematic uncertainties include: (I) background fraction, (II) background shape, (III) the $\bar K_{0}^{*}(1430)^{0}$ mass and width, (IV) additional resonances, (V) tracking efficiency correction, (VI) PID efficiency correction.
Pre-Eruptive Conditions of La Sommata Basalt (Vulcano, Aeolian Islands): Constraints from Experimental Petrology.
2011
One of the most primitive magma of Aeolian Arc is the basalt erupted (about 50 ka B.P.) by the La Sommata scoria cone at Vulcano; this is a silica-undersaturated (ne-normative) low-phyric (10-20 wt. %), Ca-rich (CaO = 13 wt. %) shoshonitic basalt (K2O = 2.28 wt.%) in which olivine phenocrysts host melt inclusions more primitive than whole rock composition and with an ultra-calcic character: CaO/Al2O3 > 1.4 [Métrich and Clocchiatti, 1996; Gioncada et al., 1998; Schiano et al., 2000]. Phenocrysts mainly include olivines (Fo92) and clinopyroxenes (Fs5). Plagioclase microlites (from An79 to An67) are the most abundant groundmass phase (45 wt. %), together with clinopyroxene (Fs11) and olivine (…
Gas-phase chemistry, recoil source characterization and in-gas-cell resonance laser ionization of actinides at IGISOL
2018
The underlying theme of this thesis focuses on buffer gas purification and relevant gas-phase ion chemistry which critically affects ion beam purity at gas cell-based radioactive ion beam facilities. The achievement of attaining a sub- parts-per-billion level of impurity at the IGISOL facility has enabled subsequent gas cell developments for production of the actinide elements, plutonium and thorium, required for a program of high-resolution optical spectroscopy. Firstly, the construction and characterization of the new IGISOL buffer gas purification system is presented. Off-line ion beam production of plutonium and thorium using in-gas-cell laser resonance ionization combined with filament dispen…
