Intracellular localisation of some peptidases and alpha-mannosidase in cotyledons of resting kidney bean, Phaseolus vulgaris

Cotyledons of resting kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris, L., cv. “Processor”) contain high activities of two alkaline peptidases, an aminopeptidase (EC 3.4.11) acting on Leu-Tyr and Leu-Gly-Gly and a dipeptidase (EC 3.4.13) hydrolysing Ala-Gly together with low activities of neutral naphthyiamidases (marker substrate Leu-β-NA) and of acid carboxypeptidases (EC 3.4.16; marker substrate Z-Phe-Ala). The intracellular localisation of these peptidases and that of α-mannosidase (EC 3.2.1.24) was studied by subcellular fractionations in different media. Effect of regurgitant from Leptinotarsa decemlineata on wound responses in Solanum tuberosum and Phaseolus vulgaris.

The effect of regurgitant from Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say larvae on wound-induced responses was studied using two plant species, Solanum tuberosum L. and Phaseolus vulgaris L. Wounding of one leaf of intact S. tuberosum plants differentially affected ethylene production and activities of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase. Only polyphenol oxidase activity was stimulated by wounding in both wounded and systemic leaves. Peroxidase activity was not affected by wounding. Wounding caused only a transient increase of ethylene production from wounded leaves. Impact of heteroptera pentatomidae feeding and oviposition on photosynthesis of herbaceous plants and egg parasitoids host location

The present study was designed to examine the effect of heteroptera pentatomidae feeding and/or oviposition on photosynthesis. Murgantia histrionica and Nezara viridula were fed on Brassica and Phaseolus plants, respectively. The changes in photosynthetic gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters were followed immediately after the feeding as well as during the post-feeding period (24, 48 and 72 h). Murgantia feeding caused visible damage on leaf lamina, whereas this was not the case with Nezara feeding. Calcium, iron and zinc uptakes by Caco-2 cells from white beans and effect of cooking

White beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) have an interesting content of essential elements, calcium, iron and zinc, but they content also phytates, oxalates, proteins, polyyphenols and complex polysaccharides that are known to interact with minerals and to affect their bioavailability. The bioavailability of calcium, iron and zinc from raw and cooked white beans was estimated using their uptake by Caco-2 cells as the criteria. Previously, the mineral fraction (soluble or dialysable) to be added to the Caco-2 cell monolayer was selected. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and NMR imaging (magnetic resonance imaging) offer the possibility to quantitatively and non-invasively measure the presence and movement of water. Unfortunately, traditional NMR hardware is expensive, poorly suited for plants, and because of its bulk and complexity, not suitable for use in the field. But does it need to be? Spatially variable rate herbicide application on durum wheat in Sicily

Using the conventional farming system, durum wheat requires high rates of herbicide spraying. Herbicide residues can cause pollution of soil and ground water and, therefore, of the entire environment.
