Core-clad phosphate glass fibers for biosensing

Recently, a phosphate glass with composition 20 CaO-20 SrO-10 Na2O-50 P2O5 (mol%) was found to have good potential as a biomaterial and to possess thermal properties suitable for fiber drawing. This study opened the path towards the development of fully bioresorbable fibers promising for biosensing. In the past, this phosphate glass with CeO2 was found to increase the refractive index and the glass stability. Therefore, a new SrO-containing glass was prepared with 1 mol% of CeO2 and core fibers were drawn from it. Modification of human platelet adhesion on biomaterial surfaces by protein preadsorption under static and flow conditions.

Biomaterial-induced thrombosis remains one of the main complications of vascular implant devices. Preadsorbed proteins on the biomaterial/blood interface will modify the adhesion and activation of platelets (PTLs) during the initial contact-phase. Our results clearly show that PTL-adherence on biomaterials is influenced not only by protein preadsorption, but also by flow conditions. The covalent coating of TCPS and glass by phosphorylcholine (PC) induces a significant decrease of PTL adhesion but leads to a slight, but nevertheless significant activation of PTL, which was detected by the induction of P-selectin expression using FACS analysis. Repair bond strength of bulk fill composites after different adhesion protocols

Background Repairs in composite resin restorations are common procedures in clinical practice. Many surface treatment options have been proposed to improve the adhesion between the old and new composite. The objective of this study was to evaluate the microtensile bond strength of repairs performed on aged bulk fill and conventional composites after different adhesion protocols. Bulk filling of Class II cavities with a dual-cure composite: Effect of curing mode and enamel etching on marginal adaptation.

Objectives: This study attempted to find a simple adhesive restorative technique for class I and II cavities on posterior teeth. Study Design: The tested materials were a self-etching adhesive (Parabond, Coltene/Whaledent) and a dual-cure composite (Paracore, Coltene/Whaledent) used in bulk to restore the cavities. Class II MO cavities were performed and assigned to 4 groups depending on the orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4) conditioning of enamel and polymerization method used (chemical or dual). Photophysical properties of the triangular [Au(HNCOH)]3 complex and its dimer

Rate constants for radiative and non-radiative transitions of the [Au(HNCOH)]3 complex and its dimer were calculated within the Herzberg–Teller approximation based on quantum mechanical principles. A high triplet quantum yield was estimated for the monomer. Internal conversion (IC) was found to be the major competing process to the intersystem crossing (ISC) from the lowest excited singlet state (S1) to the lowest triplet state (T1). ISC and IC from the spin-mixed 1 state also dominate the triplet relaxation process resulting in a negligible phosphorescence quantum yield for the monomer.
