Effects of different infant formula components on calcium dialysability

The in vitro methods proposed for estimating calcium bioavailability can be useful in studying the effect of dietetic factors. The aim of our work was to study the possible influence of different infant formula components – calcium, phosphorus, lactose, citric acid, ascorbic acid and proteins – on calcium bioavailability, considering dialysability to be an estimate of bioavailability. Trace element data covering 96-7 ka BP from stalagmite CM (Santo Tomas Cave, Cuba)

We present a new speleothem trace element and stable isotope record, which extends previous paleoclimate evidence from Cuban speleothems to the last 96 ka. Stable isotope samples were micromilled at a resolution of 0.10-0.33mm, and measured using an IRMS equipped with a Gasbench. Line scans of Element/Calcium ratios of the speleothem were measured by laser ablation ICPMS and were reduced to the resolution of the stable isotope records.

Controlled cellulose disassembly affords many variants including amorphous micro-sized cellulose crystals (MCC) and cellulose nano-sized crystals (CNC), which have emerged recently as green and sustainable nanomaterials. Unfortunately, their lower reactivity and thermal and chemical instability constitute an impediment for multifaceted nanoscience and nanotechnology usage. Abstract —Complement activation occurs in temporal correlation with the subendothelial deposition of LDL during early atherogenesis, and complement also plays a pathogenetic role in promoting lesion progression. Two lesion components have been identified that may be responsible for complement activation. First, enzymatic degradation of LDL generates a derivative that can spontaneously activate complement, and enzymatically degraded LDL (E-LDL) has been detected in the lesions. Abstract Glasses with composition 50GeO 2 –(50 −  x )PbO–5PbF 2 – x LnF 3 (Ln = Pr 3+ , Nd 3+ , Sm 3+ , Eu 3+ ) were synthesised in the bulk form. The content of PbF 2 was constant and amounted to 5 mol% whereas, the concentration of luminescent ions was 0.2 and 2 mol%. Spectroscopic properties (absorption, emission) of optically active ions were studied at room temperature. Oscillator strengths have been used to calculate phenomenological intensity parameters Ω 2,4,6 . Radiative transition probabilities as well as branching ratios and radiative lifetimes of luminescent levels were estimated. Ultrafast Relaxation Dynamics of Osmium−Polypyridine Complexes in Solution

We present steady-state absorption and emission spectroscopy and femtosecond broadband photoluminescence up-conversion spectroscopy studies of the electronic relaxation of Os(dmbp)(3) (Os1) and Os(bpy)(2)(dpp) (Os2) in ethanol, where dmbp is 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-biypridine, bpy is 2,2'-biypridine, and dpp is 2,3-dipyridyl pyrazine. In both cases, the steady-state phosphorescence is due to the lowest (MLCT)-M-3 state, whose quantum yield we estimate to be <= 5.0 x 10(-3). For Os1, the steady-state phosphorescence lifetime is 25 ns. Gallium doped SiO2: Towards a new luminescent material

We show how the interaction between Ga atoms and silica samples in a hot environment gives rise to permanent inclusions of Ga inside the silica matrix which, in turn, produce typical luminescence features. The Ga doped silica is analyzed via laser induced fluorescence, photoluminescence and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopies. The results evidence the presence of modifications induced by the Ga inclusions inside the silica matrix and some preliminary hypothesis on their nature are advanced. Possible applications of such Ga doped silica are also mentioned.
