New Insights Into the Skin Microbial Communities and Skin Aging
2020
Although it is well-known that human skin aging is accompanied by an alteration in the skin microbiota, we know little about how the composition of these changes during the course of aging and the effects of age-related skin microbes on aging. Using 16S ribosomal DNA and internal transcribed spacer ribosomal DNA sequencing to profile the microbiomes of 160 skin samples from two anatomical sites, the cheek and the abdomen, on 80 individuals of varying ages, we developed age-related microbiota profiles for both intrinsic skin aging and photoaging to provide an improved understanding of the age-dependent variation in skin microbial composition. According to the landscape, the microbial composi…
Down-regulation of nuclear binding activities of OXBOX-REBOX transcription factors during cellular senescence.
1996
Functional capacity of mitochondria declines during aging and this impairment may have a major role in aging process. Several observations indicate that transcriptional efficiency is reduced during aging. Our purpose was to find out whether aging and cellular senescence affect the nuclear binding activities of transcription factors which bind to OXBOX-REBOX sequence present in promoter regions of numerous nuclear genes encoding mitochondrial proteins. These factors regulate and coordinate the expression of mitochondrial proteins. We observed a strong down-regulation in the nuclear binding activities of OXBOX-REBOX factors in replicatively senesced human WI-38 and IMR-90 fibroblasts. On the …
Photoaging evaluation by RGB images using a smartphone for photodynamic therapy assessment
2017
In this study was evaluated the photoaging of patients' skins by the processing of RGB images acquired with an optical system based on a smartphone. Two groups were approached: a younger and an older.
