Flux and color variations of the quadruply imaged quasar HE 0435-1223
2011
aims: We present VRi photometric observations of the quadruply imaged quasar HE 0435-1223, carried out with the Danish 1.54m telescope at the La Silla Observatory. Our aim was to monitor and study the magnitudes and colors of each lensed component as a function of time. methods: We monitored the object during two seasons (2008 and 2009) in the VRi spectral bands, and reduced the data with two independent techniques: difference imaging and PSF (Point Spread Function) fitting.results: Between these two seasons, our results show an evident decrease in flux by ~0.2-0.4 magnitudes of the four lensed components in the three filters. We also found a significant increase (~0.05-0.015) in their V-R …

A K s -band-selected catalogue of objects in the ALHAMBRA survey
2016
The original ALHAMBRA catalogue contained over 400 000 galaxies selected using a synthetic F814W image, to the magnitude limit AB(F814W) ≈ 24.5. Given the photometric redshift depth of the ALHAMBRA multiband data (〈 z〉 = 0.86) and the approximately I-band selection, there is a noticeable bias against red objects at moderate redshift. We avoid this bias by creating a new catalogue selected in the Ks band. This newly obtained catalogue is certainly shallower in terms of apparent magnitude, but deeper in terms of redshift, with a significant population of red objects at z > 1. We select objects using the Ks band images, which reach an approximate AB magnitude limit Ks ≈ 22. We generate masks an…
Quasi-stellar objects in the ALHAMBRA survey
2012
[Context]: Even the spectroscopic capabilities of today's ground and space-based observatories can not keep up with the enormous flow of detections (>10 5 deg -2) unveiled in modern cosmological surveys as: i) would be required enormous telescope time to perform the spectroscopic follow-ups and ii) spectra remain unattainable for the fainter detected population. In the past decade, the typical accuracy of photometric redshift (photo-z) determination has drastically improved. Nowdays, it has become a perfect complement to spectroscopy, closing the gap between photometric surveys and their spectroscopic follow-ups. The photo-z precision for active galactic nuclei (AGN) has always lagged behin…

Color Correction for Image Stitching by Monotone Cubic Spline Interpolation
2015
This paper proposes a novel color correction scheme for image stitching where the color map transfer is modelled by a monotone Hermite cubic spline and smoothly propagated into the target image. A three-segments monotone cubic spline minimizing color distribution statistics and gradient differences with respect to both the source and target images is used. While the spline model can handle non-linear color maps, the minimization over the gradient differences limits strong alterations on the image structure. Adaptive heuristics are introduced to reduce the minimization search space and thus computational time. Experimental comparisons with respect to the state-of-the-art linear mapping model…

Correcting the effect of stellar spots on ARIEL transmission spectra – II. The limb-darkening effect
2021
This paper is part of an effort to correct the transmission spectra of a transiting planet orbiting an active star. In Paper I (Cracchiolo et al. 2020) we have demonstrated a methodology to minimize the potential bias induced by unocculted star spots on the transmission spectrum, assuming a spot model parameterized by filling factor and temperature. In this work we introduce the limb darkening effect, therefore the position of the spot in the stellar disk and the impact parameter of the transiting planet now play a key role. The method is tested on simulations of planetary transits of three representative kinds of planetary systems, at ARIEL resolution. We find that a realistic treatment of…
Equilibria involved in the diorganotin(IV) and triorganotin(IV) phosphomycin interaction in aqueous solution
2007
Four new diorganotin(IV), (R = Me, Bu), and triorganotin(IV), (R = Me, Ph), derivatives of the phosphomycin disodium salt antibiotic[(1R,2S)-1,2-epoxypropylphosphonate]Na2 have been synthesized and their solid state configuration studied by X-ray crystallography, FT-IR, Mossbauer, UV–Vis spectroscopies. The X-ray diffraction investigation, performed on the bis[trimethyltin(IV)]- phosphomycin, showed that the coordination geometry at all the Sn atoms is trigonal bipyramidal. The structure of the complex forms an unusual polymeric zig-zag planar network. The FT-IR and the 119Sn Mo¨ssbauer studies supported the formation of trigonal bipyramidal (Tbp) molecular structures, both in the diorganot…
Spectrophotometric investigations at the museum: monitoring of colour changes during differentiated cleaning of the marble statues
2011
The spectrophotometric investigations carried out during the cleaning treatments on the marble surface provide an useful support for choosing the best method to employ by monitoring, before and after the tests, both the chromatic coordinates and the spectral reflectance. Moreover, the colorimetric measurements allow us to evaluate the goodness of the chromatic level and the uniformity of the cleaned areas. The Laboratory of Physics and Indoor Environment of the Regional Center for Planning and Restoration has carried out the spectrophotometric investigations on the marble statues belonging to the Renaissance statuary collection of the Regional Gallery of Sicily Palazzo Abatellis in Palermo …
