Scalable on-chip generation and coherent control of complex optical quantum states

2018

Integrated quantum frequency combs provide access to multi-photon and high-dimensional entangled states, and their control via standard telecommunications components, and can thus open paths for reaching the state complexities required for meaningful quantum information science.

Ultrafast Fault-Tolerant Long-Distance Quantum Communication with Static Linear Optics

2017

We present an in-depth analysis regarding the error resistance and optimization of our all-optical Bell measurement and ultrafast long-distance quantum communication scheme proposed in [arXiv:1503.06777]. In order to promote our previous proposal from loss- to fault-tolerance, we introduce a general and compact formalism that can also be applied to other related schemes (including non-all-optical ones such as [PRL 112, 250501]). With the help of this new representation we show that our communication protocol does not only counteract the inevitable photon loss during channel transmission, but is also able to resist common experimental errors such as Pauli-type errors (bit- and phase-flips) a…

Modeling spectral correlations of photon-pairs generated in liquid-filled photonic crystal fiber

2020

The generation of photon-pairs with controllable spectral correlations is crucial in quantum photonics. Here we present the design of a photonic crystal fiber to generate widely-spaced four-wave mixing bands with spectral correlations that can be tuned through the thermo-optic effect after being infiltrated with heavy water. We present a theoretical study of the purity of the signal (idler) photon generated as a function of temperature, pump spectral linewidth and the length of the fiber. 511-6/18-8876 CIIC155/2019 APN-624 TEC2016- 76664-C2-1-R PROMETEO/2019/048

Scalable and effective multi-level entangled photon states: a promising tool to boost quantum technologies

2021

Abstract Multi-level (qudit) entangled photon states are a key resource for both fundamental physics and advanced applied science, as they can significantly boost the capabilities of novel technologies such as quantum communications, cryptography, sensing, metrology, and computing. The benefits of using photons for advanced applications draw on their unique properties: photons can propagate over long distances while preserving state coherence, and they possess multiple degrees of freedom (such as time and frequency) that allow scalable access to higher dimensional state encoding, all while maintaining low platform footprint and complexity. In the context of out-of-lab use, photon generation…

Color Tuning and White Light by Dispersing CdSe, CdTe, and CdS in PMMA Nanocomposite Waveguides

2013

In this paper, active nanocomposite waveguides based on the dispersion of CdS, CdTe, and CdSe colloidal quantum dots (QDs) in PMMA are proposed. Their propagation properties are studied as a function of the concentration of nanoparticles in the polymer using the variable length stripe method. When the three nanostructures are dispersed in the same film, the structure is able to waveguide the three basic colors: red (CdSe), green (CdTe), and blue (CdS), it being possible to engineer any waveguided color by an appropriate choice of the filling factor of each QD in the PMMA matrix. For this purpose, it is important to take into account reabsorption effects and the Förster energy transfe…

Nanoassembled plasmonic-photonic hybrid cavity for tailored light-matter coupling.

2010

We propose and demonstrate a hybrid cavity system in which metal nanoparticles are evanescently coupled to a dielectric photonic crystal cavity using a nanoassembly method. While the metal constituents lead to strongly localized fields, optical feedback is provided by the surrounding photonic crystal structure. The combined effect of plasmonic field enhancement and high quality factor (Q approximately 900) opens new routes for the control of light-matter interaction at the nanoscale.

Real-time and low-cost sensing technique based on photonic bandgap structures

2011

[EN] A technique for the development of low-cost and high-sensitivity photonic biosensing devices is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In this technique, a photonic bandgap structure is used as transducer, but its readout is performed by simply using a broadband source, an optical filter, and a power meter, without the need of obtaining the transmission spectrum of the structure; thus, a really low-cost system and real-time results are achieved. Experimental results show that it is possible to detect very low refractive index variations, achieving a detection limit below 2 x 10(-6) refractive index units using this low-cost measuring technique. Efficient surface plasmon field confinement in one-dimensional crystal line-defect waveguides

2006

International audience; The authors operate a near-field optical microscope to investigate surface plasmon polariton (SPP) propagation along linear waveguides opened into one-dimensional (1D) plasmonic crystals, i.e., crystals featuring a single lattice plane orientation. They show that efficient SPP field confinement can be achieved by this type of waveguide although no band gap exists in the direction perpendicular to the waveguide axis. From computed wave-vector diagrams, they show that 1D plasmonic crystals can open a wide range of prohibited propagation directions preventing from a significant coupling of the waveguide SPP modes with the crystal Bloch modes. Finally, the authors demons…
