Cyber-Physical Systems for Smart Water Networks: A Review

2021

Author's accepted manuscript. There is a growing demand to equip Smart Water Networks (SWN) with advanced sensing and computation capabilities in order to detect anomalies and apply autonomous event-triggered control. Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) have emerged as an important research area capable of intelligently sensing the state of SWN and reacting autonomously in scenarios of unexpected crisis development. Through computational algorithms, CPSs can integrate physical components of SWN, such as sensors and actuators, and provide technological frameworks for data analytics, pertinent decision making, and control. The development of CPSs in SWN requires the collaboration of diverse scienti…

A New Universal-Environment Adaptive Multi-processor Scheduler for Autonomous Cyber-Physical System

2012

International audience; Robot, spaceship and other applications that can be called autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are all smart embedded systems, which usually run in open environment by themselves with inhered intelligent capabilities. Besides the application intelligence, the researches of adaptive platform for such systems have also become topics recently. Based on the analysis of current work, a new environment adaptive scheduler (¦Á-S) for multiprocessor platform of a cyber-physical system is proposed in this article. And then, its related structures, models, and reasoning methods are studied deeply. Different from the existing ones, ¦Á-S can schedule all tasks according to th…

Data Mining for the Security of Cyber Physical Systems Using Deep-Learning Methods

2022

Cyber Physical Systems (CPSs) have become widely popular in recent years, and their applicability have been growing exponentially. A CPS is an advanced system that incorporates a computation unit along with a hardware unit, allowing for computing processes to interact with the physical world. However, this increased usage has also led to the security concerns in them, as they allow potential attack vendors to exploit the possibilities of committing misconduct for their own benefit. It is of paramount importance that these systems have comprehensive security mechanisms to mitigate these security threats. A typical attack vector for a CPS is malicious data supplied by compromised sensors that…

From digitalization to cybernization : Delivering value with cybernized services

2019

This reflection note, based on the lead author’s keynote presentation at the Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia/Scandinavian Conference on Information Systems 2019, makes an argument for the need to study the transformation from digital services to cybernized services offered by service providers to their customers. We first discuss the digitalization of services. Then, we argue that the emergence of cyber-physical systems enables a new kind of services that apply; e.g.; the internet of things, analytics of sensor-based big data, and artificial intelligence for value creation. In other words, the cybernization of services. We illustrate two particular approaches for underst…

Industry 4.0 Intelligence under Attack : From Cognitive Hack to Data Poisoning

2018

Artificial intelligence is an unavoidable asset of Industry 4.0. Artificial actors participate in real-time decision-making and problem solving in various industrial processes, including planning, production, and management. Their efficiency, as well as intelligent and autonomous behavior is highly dependent on the ability to learn from examples, which creates new vulnerabilities exploited by security threats. Today's disruptive attacks of hackers go beyond system's infrastructures targeting not only hard-coded software or hardware, but foremost data and trained decision models, in order to approach system's intelligence and compromise its work. This paper intends to reveal security threats…

Multi-agent control architecture for RFID cyberphysical robotic systems initial validation of tagged objects detection and identification using Playe…

2016

International audience; The objective of this paper is to describe and validate a multi-agent architecture proposed to control RFID Cyber-Physical Robotic Systems. This environment may contain human operators, robots (mobiles, manipulators, mobile manipulators, etc.), places (workrooms, walls, etc.) and other objects (tables, chairs, etc.). The proposed control architecture is composed of two types of agents dispatched on two levels. We find at the Organization level a Supervisory agent to allow operators to configure, manage and interact with the overall control system. At the Control level, we distinguish the Robots agents, to each robot (mobiles, manipulators or mobile manipulators) is a…

Game Theory with Engineering Applications

2016

Engineering systems are highly distributed collective systems—decisions, information, and objectives are distributed throughout—that have humans in the loop, and thus decisions may be influenced by socioeconomic factors. Engineering systems emphasize the potential of control and games beyond traditional applications. Game theory can be used to design incentives to obtain socially desirable behaviors on the part of the players, for example, a change in the consumption patterns on the part of the “prosumers” (producers-consumers) or better redistribution of traffic. This unique book addresses the foundations of game theory, with an emphasis on the physical intuition behind the concepts, an an…

Towards a Real-time Mitigation of High Temperature while Drilling using a Multi-agent System

2018

International audience; In oilfield wells, while drilling for several kilometers below surface, high temperature damages the drilling tools. This costs money and time for tripping operations to change the damaged tool. Existing temperature mitigation techniques have several drawbacks including a long response time, analogue signal issues and human intervention. In this work, we empower the down-hole tools with a coordination mechanism to mitigate high temperature in soft real time by controlling a down-hole actuator through a voting process. The tools are represented by agents that control the sensors and actuators embedded in these tools. To implement the proposed system properly, a model …

Exponentiating derivations of quasi∗-algebras: possible approaches and applications

2005

The problem of exponentiating derivations of quasi∗-algebras is considered in view of applying it to the determination of the time evolution of a physical system. The particular case where observables constitute a properCQ∗-algebra is analyzed.
