Did Pindar’s scheme really exist?

Abstract: A Greek construction in which the verb is in the 3rd sg. form, while the subject is in the 3rd pl. and, in most cases, in post–verbal position, is called Pindar’s scheme inasmuch as it occurs most frequently in the poems of this author. Various explanations have been provided for this construction and it has also been interpreted as an error. The paper is an attempt at an overall syntactic explanation of the available data.

Qual è la funzione dei doni nella storia di Medea, e che cosa ci comunicano? Attraverso di essi Medea sembra in grado di costruire relazioni e, all’opposto, di vendicarsi sui suoi nemici. È sulla base dei doni che interpreta offese e vendetta come inversioni dei meccanismi di reciprocità positiva in cui è calata. Partendo dunque dall’assunto che Medea sia, innanzitutto, una “donatrice al femminile”, il contributo esamina le più rilevanti rappresentazioni della sua storia mitica alla luce della categoria del dono. Aim of this study is to review the literary sources about Hieron’s politics against the Chalcidian colonies of Katane and Naxos, in order to explain some aspects of the ethnic redistribution in the territory ruled by the tyrant in connection with the re-foundation of Aitna and Naxos. The colony of Aitna looks like a city made up by various ethnic groups, and this is not contradicted by the famous excursus about the foundation of Aitna in Pindar’s First Pythian Ode, where there is no clue about any supposed opposition between Ionian and Dorian ethne.
