Controllable Nonspecific Protein Adsorption by Charged Hyperbranched Polyglycerol Thin Films

2015

Antifouling thin films derived from charged hyperbranched polyglycerol (hbPG) layers were fabricated and evaluated. The anionic hbPG (a-hbPG) monolayers and cationic hbPG/anionic hbPG (c/a-hbPG) bilayers were adsorbed on the underlying self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of cysteamine and 3-mercaptopropionic acid (3-MPA) by electrostatic interaction, respectively, and their procession was monitored by surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy (SPR). The adsorption of bovine serum albumin (BSA) and fibrinogen on the premade a-hbPG and c/a-hbPG thin films was measured and the capability of these thin films to resist nonspecific protein adsorption was evaluated by SPR as well. It is observed that th…

Functionnalized magnetite nanoparticles for bimodal imaging MRI/PET

2015

Functionalized magnetite nanoparticles for bimodal MRI/PET imagingSuperParamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (SPIONs) have been widely studied in the biomedical field due to their promising application as nanodrugs and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) contrast agents (T2). In this study, magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles have been developed for use as contrast agents for MRI/PET (Positron emission tomography) double imaging. First, functionalized stable superparamagnetic SPIONs have been synthesized in a continuous hydrothermal reactor. During the synthesis, hydrophilic agents (citric acid, LDOPA, DHCA and PHA) have been grafted on the surface of the nanoparticles. The functionalization of th…

Water mites of small boreal forest lakes (Central Finland)

1999

The water mite fauna of 10 small forest lakes in close proximity to each other was studied in 1979–1985. In total approximately 62 species of water mites belonging to 22 genera were detected in the lakes. The most diverse genera were Piona (14 species), Arrenurus (11), Unionicola (4) and Limnesia (4). Widely spread and abundant species were Piona variabilis and Limnesia maculata. Locally abundant were Unionicola crassipes, U. minor, Piona carnea and P. paucipora. Zoogeographically interesting though accidental species were Arrenurus werestschagini, Limnesia polonica, Momonia karelica, Piona gyrophora and Unionicola parvipora. Considerable spatial and seasonal differences were observed in th…

THE N* (1520) -> DELTA PI AMPLITUDES EXTRACTED FROM THE GAMMA P -> PI+ PI- P REACTION AND COMPARISON TO QUARK MODELS

1995

[EN] The ¿p ¿ ¿+¿¿p reaction, in combination with data from the ¿N ¿ ¿¿N reaction has been recently analyzed and allows one to obtain the s- and d-wave amplitudes for the decay into ¿¿ with absolute sign with respect to the helicity amplitudes. In addition one obtains the novel information on the momentum dependence of the amplitudes. In the present paper we show how this new information poses new constraints to quark models of hadron structure. In particular we show that the signs and the momentum dependence of these amplitudes coincide with those given by non relativistic constituent quark models. The absolute values provided by these models agree only qualitatively, and a discussion is d…

The QCD analytic effective charge and its dependence on the pion mass

2004

A new model for the QCD analytic running coupling, which incorporates the effects due to the $\pi$ meson mass, is proposed. The properties of this invariant charge in spacelike and timelike regions are examined. Its main distinctive features are a finite infrared limiting value, which depends on the pion mass, and the "plateau-like" behavior in the deep infrared domain of the timelike region.

A novel integral representation for the Adler function

2005

New integral representations for the Adler D-function and the R-ratio of the electron-positron annihilation into hadrons are derived in the general framework of the analytic approach to QCD. These representations capture the nonperturbative information encoded in the dispersion relation for the D-function, the effects due to the interrelation between spacelike and timelike domains, and the effects due to the nonvanishing pion mass. The latter plays a crucial role in this analysis, forcing the Adler function to vanish in the infrared limit. Within the developed approach the D-function is calculated by employing its perturbative approximation as the only additional input. The obtained result …
