Photoproduction of K∗ for the study of Λ(1405)
2004
Abstract The photo-induced K ∗ vector meson production is investigated for the study of the Λ(1405) resonance. This reaction is particularly suited to the isolation of the second pole in the Λ(1405) region which couples dominantly to the K N channel. We obtain the mass distribution of the Λ(1405) which peaks at 1420 MeV, and differs from the nominal one. Combined with several other reactions, like the π−p→K0πΣ which favours the first pole, this detailed study will reveal a novel structure of the Λ(1405) state.
Many-body approach to the inclusive (e,e ') reaction from the quasielastic to the Delta excitation region
1997
We have performed a many body calculation of the inclusive (e,e') cross section which runs over the three traditional regions at intermediate energies: the quasielastic peak, the dip region and the delta region. The longitudinal and transverse response functions in the quasielastic peak have also been evaluated. Traditional effects like polarization, meson exchange currents, final state interaction and delta renormalization in the nuclear medium have been included. Meson exchange currents are generated from a model of pion electroproduction on the nucleon which reproduces accurately the experimental data. The inclusive cross section accounts for 1N,2N,3N mechanisms of virtual photon absorpt…
Measurement of the polarization of the Ξ0 (Ξ0¯) hyperon beam by the NA48/1 experiment
2009
Abstract A total of 368 415 Ξ 0 → Λ π 0 and 31 171 Ξ 0 ¯ → Λ ¯ π 0 were selected from data recorded in the NA48/1 experiment during 2002 data taking. From this sample, the polarization of Ξ 0 and Ξ 0 ¯ hyperons was measured to be P Ξ 0 = − 0.102 ± 0.012 (stat) ± 0.008 (syst) and P Ξ 0 ¯ = − 0.01 ± 0.04 (stat) ± 0.008 (syst) . The dependence of P Ξ 0 on the Ξ 0 transverse momentum with respect to the primary proton beam is also presented. With the same data sample, the ratio of Ξ 0 ¯ and Ξ 0 fluxes in proton collisions at 400 GeV / c on a beryllium target was measured.
Radiative pion capture in nuclei: a continuum shell-model approach
1997
The radiative pion capture process in nuclei is approached by using a continuum shell-model description of the nucleus, together with a phenomenological treatment of the two particle-two hole effects. It is found that these effects play an important role to reproduce the observed experimental photon energy distribution. This distribution as well as the integrated one depends significantly on the details of the mean field potential. This makes this process interesting to investigate the nuclear structure dynamics.
Double pion photoproduction in nuclei
1995
The inclusive A(gamma,pi+ pi-)X reaction is studied theoretically. A sizeable enhancement of the cross section is found, in comparison with the scaling of the deuteron cross section (sigma_deuteron * A/2). This enhancement is due to the modifications in the nuclear medium of the gamma N ----> pi pi N amplitude and the pion dispersion relation. The enhancement is found to be bigger than the one already observed in the (pi,pi pi) reaction in nuclei.
Inclusive pion double charge exchange on 16O at 0.6-1.1 GeV
2003
The inclusive pion double charge exchange (DCX) on oxygen nuclei has been measured in the region where additional pion production is kinematically forbidden. The experiment was performed at ITEP PS at incident pi- kinetic energies T_0= 0.59, 0.75 and 1.1 GeV. The integrated forward differential cross section was found to decrease with energy slowly. At 1.1 GeV it exceeds the theoretical prediction within the conventional sequential single charge exchange mechanism with a neutral pion in the intermediate state (Glauber elastic rescattering) by about half an order of magnitude. The sequential mechanism with two pions in the intermediate state (Glauber inelastic rescatterings), which was propo…
Renormalization of the 1S0 One-Pion-Exchange NN Interaction in Presence of Derivative Contact Interactions
2003
We use standard distorted wave theory techniques and dimensional regularization to find out solutions of the nucleon-nucleon Lippman--Schwinger equation with a kernel determined by the Weinberg's next-to-leading potential, which consists of one--pion exchange and additional contact terms with derivatives. Though for simplicity, we restrict the discussion to the $^1S_0$ channel and to contact terms containing up to two derivatives, the generalization to higher waves and/or number of derivatives is straightforward. The undetermined low energy constants emerging out of the renormalization procedure are fitted to data.
Spectra and ratios of identified particles in Au+Au andd+Au collisions atsNN=200GeV
2013
The transverse momentum (p(T)) spectra and ratios of identified charged hadrons (pi(+/-), K-+/-, p, (p) over bar) produced in root s(NN) = 200 GeV Au + Au and d + Au collisions are reported in five different centrality classes for each collision species. The measurements of pions and protons are reported up to p(T) = 6 GeV/c (5 GeV/c), and the measurements of kaons are reported up to p(T) = 4 GeV/c (3.5 GeV/c) in Au + Au (d + Au) collisions. In the intermediate p(T) region, between 2 and 5 GeV/c, a significant enhancement of baryon-to-meson ratios compared to those measured in p + p collisions is observed. This enhancement is present in both Au + Au and d + Au collisions and increases as th…
Charged current weak production of the Delta resonance
1999
The charge changing weak production of Delta in nucleons and nuclei is studied. The reactions e^{-} p -> Delta^{0} _{e} and e^{+} p -> Delta^{++} \bar_{e} are considered as a possible source of information about the weak N-Delta transition form factors. The low q^2 BNL data on neutrino production of Delta are used to extract the axial vector N-Delta coupling, taking into account the deuteron structure and the Delta width. Finally, pion production induced by neutrinos in ^{16}O in the Delta region, relevant to atmospheric neutrino experiments, is investigated.
NUCLEAR EFFECTS IN NEUTRINO INDUCED REACTIONS
2008
We discuss the relevance of nuclear medium effects in the analysis of some low and medium energy neutrino reactions of current interest. In particular, we study the Quasi-Elastic (QE) process, where RPA correlations and Final State Interactions (FSI) are shown to play a crucial role. We have also investigated the neutrino induced coherent pion production. We find a strong reduction of the cross section due to the distortion of the pion wave function and the modification of the production mechanisms in the nucleus. The sensitivity of the results to the axial $N\Delta$ coupling $C_5^A(0)$ has been also investigated.
