Influence of seamless pipes wall thickness variation for the effectiveness of Automated Ultrasonic Testing
2015
Offshore pipelines construction is a technological challenge. Increasing water depth, harsh environments, engineering and commercial constraints are just some of the existing issues. Material selection therefore plays a key role and, for several applications, seamless pipes offer both the best technical and commercial compromise. Typically, NDT inspection of girth welds is carried out using the phased array based automated ultrasonic testing (AUT) zonal discrimination approach. AUT, compared to other techniques, guarantees a higher probability of detection of flaws and it also allows a really accurate assessment of the indications. However, since one of the peculiarities of this technique i…
Client Applications and Server-Side Docker for Management of RNASeq and/or VariantSeq Workflows and Pipelines of the GPRO Suite
2023
The GPRO suite is an in-progress bioinformatic project for -omics data analysis. As part of the continued growth of this project, we introduce a client- and server-side solution for comparative transcriptomics and analysis of variants. The client-side consists of two Java applications called “RNASeq” and “VariantSeq” to manage pipelines and workflows based on the most common command line interface tools for RNA-seq and Variant-seq analysis, respectively. As such, “RNASeq” and “VariantSeq” are coupled with a Linux server infrastructure (named GPRO Server-Side) that hosts all dependencies of each application (scripts, databases, and command line interface software). Implementation of the Serv…
Stressing sequence of steel cable-stayed bridges built by cantilevering
2015
The construction of cable-stayed bridges by cantilevering implies several changes of geometry, stress and strain patterns during the assemblage of segments. The main target to be satisfied in the construction process is the achievement of the required final geometry and of a convenient state of stress for self-weight and sustained loads. The sequence of stay stressing and the values of prestressing forces at each stage of segment assembling have the main role for reaching the desired result of design, due to the large redundancy of cable-stayed structures.Among the different procedures proposed in the literature for initial cable force determination, the Partial Elastic Scheme (PES) Method …
Towards multi-concern software development with Everything-as-Code
2022
As software is becoming a central element in our lives, more and more stakeholders have concerns. Unlike today, when developers stop their coding activities to satisfy these stakeholder concerns, we propose dealing with them as part of the coding workflow, the central element of programmers’ daily duties. This can be achieved by extending the approach that we call Everything-as-Code (EaC) beyond software engineers and operators. peerReviewed
A gearbox model for processing large volumes of data by using pipeline systems encapsulated into virtual containers
2020
Software pipelines enable organizations to chain applications for adding value to contents (e.g., confidentially, reliability, and integrity) before either sharing them with partners or sending them to the cloud. However, the pipeline components add overhead when processing large volumes of data, which can become critical in real-world scenarios. This paper presents a gearbox model for processing large volumes of data by using pipeline systems encapsulated into virtual containers. In this model, the gears represent applications, whereas gearboxes represent software pipelines. This model was implemented as a collaborative system that automatically performs Gear up (by using parallel patterns…
Smart camera design for realtime High Dynamic Range imaging
2011
International audience; Many camera sensors suffer from limited dynamic range. The result is that there is a lack of clear details in displayed images and videos. This paper describes our approach to generate high dynamic range (HDR) from an image sequence while modifying exposure times for each new frame. For this purpose, we propose an FPGA-based architecture that can produce a real-time high dynamic range video from successive image acquisition. Our hardware platform is build around a standard low dynamic range CMOS sensor and a Virtex 5 FPGA board. The CMOS sensor is a EV76C560 provided by e2v. This 1.3 Megapixel device offers novel pixel integration/readout modes and embedded image pre…
