Conclusions from the Evaluation of Virtual Machine Based High Resolution Display Wall System
2016
There are several approaches to the construction of large scale high resolution display walls depending on the required use case. Some require support of 3D acceleration APIs like OpenGL, some require stereoscopic projection. Others simply require a surface with a very high display resolution. The authors of this paper have developed a virtual machine based high resolution display wall architecture that works for all planar projection use cases and does not require a custom integration. The software that generates the presented content is executed in a virtual machine thus no specific APIs other than those of the virtualized OS are required. Any software that is able to run under a given OS…
Efficient software tool for the analysis of planar-based metamaterial structures
2007
We present a software tool specialized in the analysis of metamaterial structures based on planar circuits. The tool implements a formulation for open transversal multilayered structures, which reduces the number of unknowns employed in the problem. Besides, the formulation has been efficiently accelerated by means of a Kummer-like decomposition, extracting the singular behaviour of the Green's functions from the frequency analysis. By means of this formulation, several different kinds of metamaterial structures built in coplanar and microstrip technologies are successfully analyzed, obtaining bandpass and stopband filter responses in a fast and accurate way. Modelling of single cell solid oxide fuel cells using COMSOL multiphysics
2017
Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) have the potential to become one of the efficient and cost effective systems for direct conversion of a wide variety of fuels to electricity. In this study, we developed a three-dimensional multiphysics model for a single cell SOFC using COMSOL multiphysics (version 5.2) software and performed simulations to examine the effect of gas flow patterns (radial flow and counter flow) in different operating temperatures (700° C, 800° C and 1000° C) for a planar anode supported SOFC. With the help of the simulation results, we have analyzed the electrical characteristics of the single cell SOFCs. From the simulation results, it is observable that the radial gas flow p…
Quasifractal planar microstrip resonators for microwave circuits
1999
We propose a new shape for microwave planar circuits using the self-similarity of the fractal geometry. This new shape allows the generation of numerous resonant frequencies for this microwave planar resonator due to the surface's encasing. The resonant frequency assessment can be useful for the concept of filters or wide frequency band matching loads as examples, without consuming circuit surface. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Mechanosensory Genes Pkd1 and Pkd2 Contribute to the Planar Polarization of Brain Ventricular Epithelium
2015
Directional beating of ependymal (E) cells9 cilia in the walls of the ventricles in the brain is essential for proper CSF flow. E cells display two forms of planar cell polarity (PCP): rotational polarity of individual cilium and translational polarity (asymmetric positioning of cilia in the apical area). The orientation of individual E cells varies according to their location in the ventricular wall (location-specific PCP). It has been hypothesized that hydrodynamic forces on the apical surface of radial glia cells (RGCs), the embryonic precursors of E cells, could guide location-specific PCP in the ventricular epithelium. However, the detection mechanisms for these hydrodynamic forces hav…
An upper bound of the index of an equilibrium point in the plane
2012
Abstract We give an upper bound of the index of an isolated equilibrium point of a C 1 vector field in the plane. The vector field is decomposed in gradient and Hamiltonian components. This decomposition is related with the Loewner vector field. Associated to this decomposition we consider the set Π where the gradient and Hamiltonian components are linearly dependent. The number of branches of Π starting at the equilibrium point determines the upper bound of the index.
Planar systems with critical points: multiple solutions of two-point nonlinear boundary value problems
2005
Abstract Two-point boundary value problems for the second-order ordinary nonlinear differential equations are considered. First, we consider the planar systems equivalent to equation x ″ = f ( x ) , where f ( x ) has multiple zeros and the respective system has centers and saddle points in various combinations. Estimations of the number of solutions are given. Then results are extended to nonautonomous equations which have superlinear behavior at infinity.
Bootstrap validation of links of a minimum spanning tree
2018
We describe two different bootstrap methods applied to the detection of a minimum spanning tree obtained from a set of multivariate variables. We show that two different bootstrap procedures provide partly distinct information that can be highly informative about the investigated complex system. Our case study, based on the investigation of daily returns of a portfolio of stocks traded in the US equity markets, shows the degree of robustness and completeness of the information extracted with popular information filtering methods such as the minimum spanning tree and the planar maximally filtered graph. The first method performs a "row bootstrap" whereas the second method performs a "pair bo…
Completely independent spanning trees in some regular graphs
2014
International audience; Let k >= 2 be an integer and T-1,..., T-k be spanning trees of a graph G. If for any pair of vertices {u, v} of V(G), the paths between u and v in every T-i, 1 <= i <= k, do not contain common edges and common vertices, except the vertices u and v, then T1,... Tk are completely independent spanning trees in G. For 2k-regular graphs which are 2k-connected, such as the Cartesian product of a complete graph of order 2k-1 and a cycle, and some Cartesian products of three cycles (for k = 3), the maximum number of completely independent spanning trees contained in these graphs is determined and it turns out that this maximum is not always k. Analysis of microsphere oblique impact with planar surfaces based on the independent friction-restitution approach
2020
The independent friction restitution closure (IFR) previously applied to describe planar oblique impact of a homogeneous sphere on an infinitely massive rough plane is applied here to microsphere collisions and is extended to describe horizontal launch experiments. The model provides analytical solutions of the motion equations based on a unique set of values of the coefficients of normal and tangential restitution and friction. Comparison with experimental data in literature for the impact of microspheres of diameter <100 mu m yields a satisfactory agreement between experimentation and theory.
