The transverse elastic deflection of a traction belt along the free span depends mainly on the flexural stiffness, but may be significantly influenced by the distributed weight and the shear compliance, which affect together the width of the arc of contact. In particular, the shear compliance yields a virtual decrease of the flexural stiffness, flattens the free span and increases the wound regions, to the advantage of the transmissible torque. Power losses in power-split CVTs: A fast black-box approximate method

Abstract This paper addresses the mechanical losses of planetary transmissions, with particular attention to power-split CVTs in their hybrid electric versions. It provides unified layout-independent analytical relationships, which can be used for both analysis, design and control purposes, and a simplified approach; the latter overcomes the necessity to segment the operating range of the power-split CVT in order to keep its loss model physically consistent. An example of application to a real hybrid electric PS-CVT is performed to show the simplicity, accuracy and generality of the proposed method.
A Geometrical Approach for Vision Based Attitude and Altitude Estimation for UAVs in Dark Environments

International audience; This paper presents a single camera and laser system dedicated to the realtime estimation of attitude and altitude for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) under low illumination conditions to dark environments. The fisheye camera allows to cover a large field of view (FOV). The approach, close to structured light systems, uses the geometrical information obtained by the projection of a laser circle onto the ground plane and perceived by the camera. Abstract The absence of intermetallic phases in Fe/Cu, Cu/Nb and Nb/Ti binary systems opens the possibility to obtain reliable joints between titanium alloys and steels by using a multimaterial copper/niobium insert. Continuous Yb:YAG laser welding of 1 mm thick titanium and 316L stainless steel plates through niobium/copper multimaterial insert was performed. The use of a 100 µm laser beam allowed producing isolated molten zones and thus completely avoiding the formation of brittle intermetallic phases, according to SEM and XRD analysis. Direct laser welding of pure titanium to austenitic stainless steel

Abstract Direct butt joining of pure titanium to 316L stainless steel with continuous Yb:YAG laser was performed with variation of the beam offset from joint line. Mechanical properties of samples were evaluated by tensile tests and three-point flexural tests. The fractured surfaces and cross sections of welds were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Tensile properties of welds were strongly determined by the beam offset from joint line and are well described by Weibull statistics. Abstract Narrow gap arc welding is a common solution for the welding of thick structures. In this study, a defocused laser beam is used to pre-melt the narrow gap walls in front of an arc-welding bath. Such a welding configuration can be referred to a hybrid welding configuration. In the present work, a particular attention is given to evaluation of the interaction between an arc plasma and a defocused laser beam. Abstract A new 3D measuring device for large dimensions is proposed. It is based on the combination of a simple system consisting of a smartphone that measures in stereo a near field with a robotic total station that tracks the position of the camera on a far field.
