The Potsdam Open Source Radio Interferometry Tool (PORT)
2021
The Potsdam Open Source Radio Interferometry Tool (PORT) is the very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) analysis software developed and maintained at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. Chiefly, PORT is tasked with the timely processing of VLBI sessions and post-processing activities supporting the generation of celestial and terrestrial reference frames. In addition, it serves as a framework for research and development within the GFZ's VLBI working group and is part of the tool set employed in educating young researchers. Starting out from VLBI group delays, PORT estimates station and radio sources positions, as well as Earth orientation parameters, tropospheric parameters, a…
Fisiopatologia. — Membrane vesicles, shed from in vitro cultured human breast carcinomas cells, inhibit lymphocytes proliferation.
1994
Membrane vesicles are released by the cells of the two human breast carcinoma cell lines 8701-BC and MCF-7. Vesicles express on their surface HLA Class I molecules and tumor associated antigens and they appear to have a strong, dose dependent, inhibitory effect on thymidine incorporation by periferal lymphocytes. Inhibition is evident on both PhA stimulated or non stimulated lymphocytes. The inhibitory effect is visible after three days of culture. Vesicle addition does not cause cytotoxic effects since inhibited lymphocytes are still capable to exclude Trypan blue. No apoptoptic cells were observed.
Thermal-Infrared Spectral and Angular Characterization of Crude Oil and Seawater Emissivities for Oil Slick Identification
2014
Previous work has shown that the emissivity of crude oil is lower than that of the seawater in the thermal-infrared (TIR) spectrum. Thus, oil slicks cause an emissivity decrease relative to the seawater in that region. The aim of this paper was to carry out experimental measurements to characterize the spectral and angular variations of crude oil and seawater emissivities. The results showed that the crude oil emissivity is lower than the seawater emissivity and that it is essentially flat in the atmospheric window of 8-13 μm. The crude oil emissivity has a marked emissivity decrease with the angle (from 0.956 ± 0.005 at 15 ° to 0.873 ± 0.007 at 65 °), which is even higher than that of the …

“Mamá, me quiero ir de este colegio”. Un análisis de las experiencias de acoso escolar de estudiantes con diversidad funcional
2023
Bullying is a high-prevalence problem in the classrooms of our schools. Young people with functional diversity constitute a particularly vulnerable population when they are involved in such situations. This study analyses the harassment experiences of five young people with functional diversity. To this end, five semi-structured interviews and a focus group were conducted. Participants reported having experienced verbal, physical, social and sexual harassment. The treatment of these situations by educational institutions was ineffective and the solution adopted in all cases was a change in the type of schooling. These results highlight the need to carry out teacher training and sensitizatio…
EDGE: explorer of diffuse emission and gamma-ray burst explosions
2009
How structures on various scales formed and evolved from the early Universe up to present time is a fundamental question of astrophysical cosmology. EDGE will trace the cosmic history of the baryons from the early generations of massive star by Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB) explosions, through the period of cluster formation, down to very low redshifts, when between a third and one half of the baryons are expected to reside in cosmic filaments undergoing gravitational collapse by dark matter (Warm Hot Intragalactic Medium: WHIM). In addition EDGE, with its unprecedented observational capabilities, will provide key results on several other topics. The science is feasible with a medium class mission …
Landscape Urbanism and Architecture of the Voids
2017
This paper is focused on the relevance of the idea of “void” for the development of landscape urbanism. The theories of Secchi and Koolhaas are considered as far as a new acceptance of void is concerned. Furthermore the highly influential Chassé Terrain intervention in Breda b…
Gas emissions from five volcanoes in northern Chile and implications for the volatiles budget of the Central Volcanic Zone
2014
This study performed the first assessment of the volcanic gas output from the Central Volcanic Zone (CVZ) of northern Chile. We present the fluxes and compositions of volcanic gases (H2O, CO2, H2, HCl, HF, and HBr) from five of the most actively degassing volcanoes in this region—Lascar, Lastarria, Putana, Ollague, and San Pedro—obtained during field campaigns in 2012 and 2013. The inferred gas plume compositions for Lascar and Lastarria (CO2/Stot = 0.9–2.2; Stot/HCl = 1.4–3.4) are similar to those obtained in the Southern Volcanic Zone of Chile, suggesting uniform magmatic gas fingerprint throughout the Chilean arc. Combining these compositions with our own UV spectroscopy measurements of …
Effects of Dissolved Complexation on REE Fate During Interactions between Volcanic Ash and Coexisting Fluids
2013
AbstractThis work analyzes REE behavior during the delivery of volcanic ash into a marine system and highlights the effects induced by dissolved carbonate and humate complexes on REE release. Kinetic experiments were carried out during a 6-month period using a batch method approach. Results show that the highest degree of REE leaching occurs during the early stage. Altered phases that crystallize induce REE sorption and dissolved complexation towards surface complexation, concurrent processes that are enhanced by Y/Ho, La/Yb, and Ce/Ce* changes, whereas dissolved humates and carbonates influence the dissolution rate of ash and the dissolved REE behavior.
