Analysis of Primary/Containment Coupling Phenomena Characterizing the MASLWR Design During a SBLOCA Scenario
2012
Today considering the world energy demand increase, the use of advanced nuclear power plants, have an important role in the environment and economic sustainability of country energy strategy mix considering the capacity of nuclear reactors of producing energy in safe and stable way contributing in cutting the CO2 emission (Bertel & Morrison, 2001; World Energy Outlook-Executive Summary, 2009; Wolde-Rufael & Menyah, 2010; Mascari et al., 2011d). According to the information’s provided by the “Power Reactor Information System” of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), today 433 nuclear power reactors are in operation in the world providing a total power installed capacity of 366.610 G…

A Non-linear Diffeomorphic Framework for Prostate Multimodal Registration
2011
International audience; This paper presents a novel method for non-rigid registration of prostate multimodal images based on a nonlinear framework. The parametric estimation of the non-linear diffeomorphism between the 2D fixed and moving images has its basis in solving a set of non-linear equations of thin-plate splines. The regularized bending energy of the thin-plate splines along with the localization error of established correspondences is jointly minimized with the fixed and transformed image difference; where, the transformed image is represented by the set of non-linear equations defined over the moving image. The traditional thin-plate splines with established correspondences may p…
Bioinformatic flowchart and database to investigate the origins and diversity of Clan AA peptidases
2009
Abstract Background Clan AA of aspartic peptidases relates the family of pepsin monomers evolutionarily with all dimeric peptidases encoded by eukaryotic LTR retroelements. Recent findings describing various pools of single-domain nonviral host peptidases, in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, indicate that the diversity of clan AA is larger than previously thought. The ensuing approach to investigate this enzyme group is by studying its phylogeny. However, clan AA is a difficult case to study due to the low similarity and different rates of evolution. This work is an ongoing attempt to investigate the different clan AA families to understand the cause of their diversity. Results In this paper, we…
Insights in ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia
2021
Abstract SARS-CoV-2 vaccine ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (AstraZeneca) causes a thromboembolic complication termed vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT). Using biophysical techniques, mouse models, and analysis of VITT patient samples, we identified determinants of this vaccine-induced adverse reaction. Super-resolution microscopy visualized vaccine components forming antigenic complexes with platelet factor 4 (PF4) on platelet surfaces to which anti-PF4 antibodies obtained from VITT patients bound. PF4/vaccine complex formation was charge-driven and increased by addition of DNA. Proteomics identified substantial amounts of virus production-derived T-REx HEK293 proteins in the ethyle…
In Situ Detection of Phosphorylated Platelet-derived Growth Factor Receptor β Using a Generalized Proximity Ligation Method
2007
Improved methods are needed for in situ characterization of post-translational modifications in cell lines and tissues. For example, it is desirable to monitor the phosphorylation status of individual receptor tyrosine kinases in samples from human tumors treated with inhibitors to evaluate therapeutic responses. Unfortunately the leading methods for observing the dynamics of tissue post-translational modifications in situ, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence, exhibit limited sensitivity and selectivity. Proximity ligation assay is a novel method that offers improved selectivity through the requirement of dual recognition and increased sensitivity by including DNA amplification as a…

Maximal Response Plateau to Adenosine 5′-Monophosphate in Asthma
2009
Background No information is available on the plateau in response to adenosine 5′-monophosphate. The aims of the present study were to determine whether plateau can be detected with AMP and the relation with the plateau in response to methacholine, and to identify the relation between the plateau and indirect markers of airway inflammation, such as exhaled nitric oxide (ENO) and exhaled breath condensate (EBC) pH. Methods Airway responsiveness to high concentrations of methacholine and AMP, ENO levels, and EBC pH values were obtained in 31 subjects with well-controlled asthma. Concentration-response curves were characterized by their concentration of agonist that produces a decrease in FEV …
