This research and work has been supported by the European Regional Development Fund within the Activity 1.1.1.2 “Post-doctoral Research Aid” of the Specific Aid Objective 1.1.1 (i.e., “to increase the research and innovative capacity of scientific institutions of Latvia and the ability to attract external financing, investing in human resources and infrastructure”) of the Operational Programme “Growth and Employment” (No. 1.1.1.2/VIAA/2/18/331).
Design of a Cleaning Program for a PV Plant Based on Analysis of Energy Losses
2015
Solar photovoltaic (PV) energy has grown significantly over the past few years. However, despite the increase in installed capacity, this energy source still raises important concerns related to the variability of power production. The short-term effects such as cloud shadowing and supply interruptions, as well as long-term effects such as dust accumulation, seasonal variation, and ageing of PV modules, can cause variability of power production. Therefore, the analysis of all the variability sources in order to provide statistically consistent power production data is an important challenge. This study presents a methodology to analyze data from a PV plant in order to have an independent ev…
Preliminary results of a multi-scale structural analisys in an analogue carbonate reservoir (Hyblean Plateau, Sicily, Italy)
2010
With the aim of studying the multi-scale fault architecture and permeability in hydrocarbon-rich porous carbonate rocks, we are currently involved in a project focused on the structural analysis of fractured and faulted platform-to-ramp carbonates cropping out in the Hyblean Plateau (Sicily, Italy). The Hyblean Plateau is part of the Maghrebian foreland and forms the northern portion of the African plate. The plateau is a NE-oriented structural high crosscut by a large-scale N10°-20°E oriented strike-slip fault system, named Scicli-Ragusa, which was affected by right-lateral kinematics during the Upper Miocene-Lower Pliocene. Some authors documented a recent activity of the Scicli-Ragusa fa…
Performance of Lead-Acid Batteries with Nanostructured Electrodes at Different Temperature
2018
In this work we present innovative lead-acid batteries with nanostructured electrodes, which are cycled in a wide range of temperatures typically of lead-acid commercial batteries (EN 61427-1: 2013). In comparison to parameters usually used to commercial batteries, much more stressful conditions in terms of cut-off, charge/discharge rate and discharge were imposed.
High-Performance Lead-Acid Batteries Enabled by Pb and PbO2 Nanostructured Electrodes: Effect of Operating Temperature
2021
Lead-acid batteries are now widely used for energy storage, as result of an established and reliable technology. In the last decade, several studies have been carried out to improve the performance of this type of batteries, with the main objective to replace the conventional plates with innovative electrodes with improved stability, increased capacity and a larger active surface. Such studies ultimately aim to improve the kinetics of electrochemical conversion reactions at the electrode-solution interface and to guarantee a good electrical continuity during the repeated charge/discharge cycles. To achieve these objectives, our contribution focuses on the employment of nanostructured electr…
ELECTROCHEMICAL H2O2 SENSORS BASED ON Pd and Cu NANOSTRUCUTERS
2018
In the last decades, with the fast improvement of electronics, the field of sensors is highly expanding. The basic idea of sensors is to detect something and then trigger a corresponding action. This simple, but very important, concept can be used in different fields: from chemical industries to farms, from the environmental monitoring [1] to a point of care analysis [2]. Currently, talking about sensing of chemical species, different techniques are used, such as Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (GFAAS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS), IR spectroscopy, redox titration and so on. Despite they are highly efficient in …
I TETTI VERDI DI TIPO ESTENSIVO: BIODIVERSITÀ AD ALTA QUOTA
2016
L’approccio noto come habitat template, consiste …

Zasłużeni dla miasta. O mikrosystemie plateonimicznym Opola
2016
The Opole urban nomenclature has for many years been a space of special homage paid to the local heroes. Taking into account this fact, in my research I have concentrated on Opole streets, squares, buildings and estates named aftcr persons associated with this region. The analysis covered not only outstanding historical personalities, bul also contemporary authorities - writers, politicians and scientists. The purpose of this paper was to present the most important nomenclature trends associated with the regional history and to show the impact of names commemorating prominent historical figurcs on the contemporary image of Opole. This urban nomenclature microsystem eonsisting of about one h…
