Multipactor Effect in a Parallel-Plate Waveguide Partially Filled With Magnetized Ferrite

2014

The aim of this paper is the analysis of the multipactor effect in a parallel-plate waveguide when a ferrite slab, transversally magnetized by a static magnetic field parallel to the waveguide walls, is present. Employing an in-house developed code, numerical simulations are performed to predict the multipactor radio frequency voltage threshold in such a ferrite-loaded waveguide. Variations of the ferrite magnetization field strength and the ferrite slab height are analyzed. Effective electron trajectories are also shown for a better understanding of the breakdown phenomenon, finding different multipactor regimes.

An analytical model to evaluate the radiated power spectrum of a multipactor discharge in a parallel-plate region

2008

This paper is aimed at studying the electromagnetic radiation pattern of a multipactor discharge occurring in a parallel-plate waveguide. The proposed method is based on the Fourier expansion of the multipactor current in terms of time-harmonic currents radiating in the parallel-plate region. Classical radiation theory combined with the frequency domain Green's function of the problem allows the calculation of both the electric and the magnetic radiated fields. A novel analytical formula for the total radiated power of each multipactor harmonic has been derived. This formula is suitable for predicting multipactor with the third-harmonic technique. The proposed formulation has been successfu…

Damping performance of finite microperforated plates using multi-sized and spacial distributions of perforations

2023

In the context of structural dynamics, recent works by the authors showed that microperforations can be used to mitigate vibration. Microperforated plates (MPPs) have been shown to exhibit substantial added damping stemming from fluid-structure interactions and visco-thermal effect mechanisms in the boundary layers of the perforations during relative motion between the solid and the fluid contained in the perforations. The added damping reaches a maximum for a characteristic frequency, depending only on the perforation diameter. Choosing the perforation diameter so that the characteristic frequency coincides with the natural frequency of the plate reduces the mode contribution of the plate.…

Different Representation Procedures Originated from Multivariate Temporal Pattern Analysis of the Behavioral Response to Pain in Wistar Rats Tested i…

2019

Temporal pattern analysis is an advanced multivariate technique able to investigate the structure of behavior by unveiling the existence of statistically significant constraints among the interval length separating events in sequence. If on the one hand, such an approach allows investigating the behavioral response to pain in its most intimate and inner features, on the other hand, due to the meaning of the studies on pain, it is of relevant importance that the results utilize intuitive and easily comprehensible ways of representation. The aim of this paper is to show various procedures useful to represent the results originating from the multivariate T-pattern analysis of the behavioral re…

The Kolmogorov Spline Network for Image Processing

2011

In 1900, Hilbert stated that high order equations cannot be solved by sums and compositions of bivariate functions. In 1957, Kolmogorov proved this hypothesis wrong and presented his superposition theorem (KST) that allowed for writing every multivariate functions as sums and compositions of univariate functions. Sprecher has proposed in (Sprecher, 1996) and (Sprecher, 1997) an algorithm for exact univariate function reconstruction. Sprecher explicitly describes construction methods for univariate functions and introduces fundamental notions for the theorem comprehension (such as tilage). Köppen has presented applications of this algorithm to image processing in (Köppen, 2002) and (Köppen &…

The Fatty Liver Assessment in Germany (FLAG) cohort study identifies large heterogeneity in NAFLD care

2020

Background & Aims NAFLD is a growing health concern. The aim of the Fatty Liver Assessment in Germany (FLAG) study was to assess disease burden and provide data on the standard of care from secondary care. Methods The FLAG study is an observational real-world study in patients with NAFLD enrolled at 13 centres across Germany. Severity of disease was assessed by non-invasive surrogate scores and data recorded at baseline and 12 months. Results In this study, 507 patients (mean age 53 years; 47% women) were enrolled. According to fibrosis-4 index, 64%, 26%, and 10% of the patients had no significant fibrosis, indeterminate stage, and advanced fibrosis, respectively. Patients with advanced fib…

Effects of renewables on the stylized facts of electricity prices

2015

Abstract Many countries around the world have increased their renewable installed capacity due to a greater awareness of climate concerns. Under this new framework, with renewables being among the main generation sources, the literature warns of a dramatic change in price behaviour. Some of the most commonly claimed effects of having a significant proportion of renewable generating sources in the total electricity production mix include: (i) a systematic decrease in overall wholesale market prices, (ii) a higher occurrence of price jumps, and (iii) a significant increase in price volatility. The goal of the present study is to test whether these changes in price behaviour have actually come…

Thermomechanical degradation of PP based nanocomposites filled with graphene nanoplatelets

2018

Graphitic nanofillers have extensively used to prepare nanocomposites based on both conventional petroleum based plastics and bio-based polymers . Among them, graphene or graphite nanoplatelets (GnP), also called graphite nanosheets or nanoflakes, are a relatively new carbon nanomaterial composed of stacked 2D graphene sheets with outstanding electrical, thermal and mechanical properties. Indeed, by adding GnP, also at low filler concentration (< 5 wt.%), the mechanical, heat-resistance, thermal and electrical properties of the polymer matrix can surprisingly enhance due to unique properties of these nanofillers. However, the characteristics of these multiphase systems certainly depend o…

CuZnSnSe NANOTUBES AND NANOWIRES BY TEMPLATE ELECTROSYNTHESIS

2014

In this work we present some results of an extensive investigation aimed to find suitable conditions to grow CuZnSnSe (CZTSe) nanostructures through single-step electrodeposition into the channels of polycarbonate membranes. After the optimization of several electrodeposition parameters, we have found that pulsed current deposition, between 0 and -1 mA cm-2, is the best way to obtain CZTSe nanostructures mechanically attached to the support. An interesting result concerns the effect of supporting electrolyte in the deposition bath. In fact, changing its concentration it is possible to vary morphology of nanostructures from nanotubes to nanowires. In both case uniform arrays of ordered nanos…
