Combining land preparation and vegetation restoration for optimal soil eco-hydrological services in the Loess Plateau, China

2019

Abstract In semiarid terrestrial ecosystems, optimized eco-rehabilitation strategies, such as land preparations and planting vegetation, are keys to achieve a successful ecological restoration. Land preparations and vegetation are supposed to have the coupled and respective impacts on soil ecosystem services, which are still unclear now. In this study, eighteen experimental plots with six different combinations and repetitions of land preparations and vegetation were built in the Chinese Loess Plateau in 2014 and soil moisture storages (SMS), soil carbon stocks (SCS) and other soil nutrient stocks were calculated at 0–100 cm, also the effects of land preparations and planting vegetation on …

Magnetic forces in 2D foams

2005

The asymptotic expression for the ponderomotive force in the magnetic liquid film is derived and a role of the disjoining pressure in 2D magnetic foam formation is considered. New equation for the force balance at the vertex of 2D magnetic foam is proposed and modified Plateau rule for the films is obtained. The theoretical relation for the angle between films fits the experimental data for small magnetic Bond numbers very well.

Dynamic Anomalies and their Relation to the Glass Transition: A Neutron Scattering Study of the Glass Forming Van der Waals Liquid Ortho-terphenyl

1991

Neutron scattering experiments on the molecular glass former ortho-terphenyl reveal a dynamic anomaly at a temperature Tc ≈ 290 K well above the calorimetric glass temperature Tg = 243 K. Close above Tc the density autocorrelation function ΦQ(t) shows a two step decay over 4–5 decades in time. The slower component obeys the time-temperature superposition principle. Its line shape can be well parametrized by a Kohlrausch law and is strongly temperature dependent as its relaxation time scales with the shear viscosity. Thus this component is identified with the structural relaxation (α-process). The faster component (β-process) is much less temperature dependent. Its line shape factorizes in a…

Coexistence of spin-crossover and antiferromagnetic coupling phenomena in the novel dinuclear Fe(II) complex [Fe(dpa)(NCS)2]2bpym

2003

Abstract The iron(II) spin crossover dinuclear compound [Fe(dpa)(NCS) 2 ] 2 bpym where dpa = 2,2 ′ -dipyridylamine and bpym = 2,2 ′ -bipyrimidine has been synthesized and characterized. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility and 57 Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy data provide evidence for a rather complete and continuous S=2 ( HS )↔S=0 (LS) spin-crossover behavior taking place in the temperature range 400–50 K (T 1/2 =245 K ) without the presence of a plateau at 50% of conversion. The absence of such plateau, which is characteristic of all dinuclear compounds so far studied, is interpreted in terms of synergetic effect between intramolecular and intermolecular interactions.

Pressure effect on superconductivity in FeSe0.5Te0.5

2016

Due to the simple layered structure, isostructural FeSe and FeSe0.5Te0.5 are clue compounds for understanding the principal mechanisms of superconductivity in the family of Fe-based superconductors. High-pressure magnetic, structural and Mossbauer studies have been performed on single-crystalline samples of superconducting FeSe0.5Te0.5 with Tc = 13.5 K. Susceptibility data have revealed a strong increase of Tc up to 19.5 K for pressures up to 1.3 GPa, followed by a plateau in the Tc(p) dependence up to 5.0 GPa. Further pressure increase leads to a disappearance of the superconducting state around 7.0 GPa. X-ray diffraction and Mossbauer studies explain this fact by a tetragonal-to-hexagonal…

Modeling the aerosol chemical composition of the tropopause over the Tibetan Plateau during the Asian summer monsoon

2019

Enhanced aerosol abundance in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS) associated with the Asian summer monsoon (ASM) is referred to as the Asian Tropopause Aerosol Layer (ATAL). The chemical composition, microphysical properties, and climate effects of aerosols in the ATAL have been the subject of discussion over the past decade. In this work, we use the ECHAM/MESSy Atmospheric Chemistry (EMAC) general circulation model at a relatively fine grid resolution (about 1.1×1.1∘) to numerically simulate the emissions, chemistry, and transport of aerosols and their precursors in the UTLS within the ASM anticyclone during the years 2010–2012. We find a pronounced maximum of aerosol extin…

Electrophoresis of model colloidal spheres in low salt aqueous suspension

2004

We report on comprehensive measurements of the electrophoretic mobility μ of a highly charged spherical colloid in deionized or low salt aqueous suspensions, where fluid and crystalline order develops with increased packing fraction Φ. We propose the existence of a 'universal' shape of the μ(Φ) showing three distinct regimes: a logarithmic increase, a plateau and a logarithmic decrease. The position and the height of the plateau are found to be influenced by the particle surface properties and the electrolyte concentration. In particular, it starts once the counter-ion concentration becomes equal to the concentration of background electrolyte. This coincides only loosely with the range of Φ…
