This study has two main aims, both of which are related to gender segregation in the labour market and to the "glass ceiling phenomen on". The first is to establish why women with high educational qualifications and management capabilities tend not to reach the top of the organisational pyramid. The second is to investigate whether traditional management models, that is, masculine models, are able to respond effectively to the challenges of the current labour situation. The determinants of net interest income in the Mexican banking system: An integrated model

This paper analyzes net interest income in the Mexican banking system over the period 1993-2005. Taking as reference the seminal work by Ho and Saunders (1981) and subsequent extensions by other authors, our study models the net interest margin simultaneously including operating costs and diversification and specialization as determinants of the margin. The results referring to the Mexican case show that its high margins can be explained mainly by average operating costs and by market power. This study focuses, from a short story of the blood libel of Saint Dominguito de Val, on answering the questions of when and why the ?tradition? was made about this saint, and the specific moments of his Revitalization until the end of the 17th century. Although the short story of the death of this infant has been occupied by the most diverse writers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, we take as reference the master Espés and the chroniclers Blancas, Andrés de Uztarroz and Dormer.

Protons for Jehovah’s Witnesses? How press coverage of Ashya King’s case brought proton beam therapy to the public arena

The case of Ashya King, the child brain tumour patient whose parents took from a British hospital so he could be treated with Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) abroad, contributed to popularize that technology among a general audience. Through the content analysis of British and Spanish press coverage (N=329), our research shows that proton therapy enjoyed scarce coverage in the analysed media before Ashya King’s case. His story, magnified due to the fact that his parents were Jehovah’s witnesses was a cause both for public concern and media sensationalism.
