Local interest groups and the perception of power in Spanish cities
2018
Studies on local interest groups have generated a considerable number of theories on urban power that have eventually become the basis of far-reaching approaches on democracy and collective action. Such literature has been especially concerned with discovering who governs the city, paving the way for discussions on elitism, pluralism and urban regimes. Some approaches consider that the business elite dominates local politics, while other theories assert that interests other than business (neighbors, environmentalists, faith-based organizations, civic groups) have been gaining relevance and access to local government. The POLLEADER survey (2006) provided data on the influence of certain soci…
Echinostomes: systematics and life cycles
2008
This chapter provides a review of the most significant literature in the last decade on the systematics and biology of echinostomes and echinostome-like digeneans. This review is primarily concerned with members of the genus Echinostoma, although members of other genera (Echinoparyphium, Echinochasmus, Himasthla, Hypoderaeum, Petasiger, Euparyphium, Stephanoprora, Isthmiophora, and Acanthoparyphium) and echinostome-related genera (Parorchis, Philophthalmus and Ribeiroia) are also considered. The literature on molecular systematics and morphometrics of these trematodes is reviewed. Specific mention is made of the life cycle patterns of echinostome and echinostome-like digeneans along with an…
La sombra del poder: Egisto
2017
The power, if it is effective, projects a shadow, phenomenon inherent in his necessary entity, and in the case of the genre of power that represents Clytemnestra shadow it is absolutely necessary, because it requires power from the existence of Aegisthus, while that of their non-presence. We try to delve into the r…

2019
Greek tradition links the death of regent Pausanias of Sparta with ghosts. In this paper, we focus on the well-known episode that revolves around Pausanias himself and a Byzantine maiden and is transmitted by Aristodemus, Plutarch and Pausanias Periegetes. The multiplicity of versions demands a comparative analysis, which we carry out taking into account the three spaces where the narrative action takes place (civic, intimate and ritual spaces). Results indicate a concordance between Plutarch and Pausanias Periegetes, as well as a dissonance between them and Aristodemus. This difference especially affects the narrative treatment of the maiden, a ghost properly so-called in Plutarch and Paus…
