Turkish women writers in English translation

2011

The present paper aims to present a brief survey of Turkish women writers in English translation. Due to the dominant position of English, Turkey has been rather dependent on translations from this language and the flow of translations into the opposite direction has been quite slow. Yet, there is a considerable increase in the number of translations from Turkish into English especially since the 1980s. This also holds true for the works of women writers, and, of women’s fiction in particular, which is closely related to the bond between writing and women’s increased consciousness. The paper also briefly touches upon issues such as what has not been translated and why, and the role translat…

Piękno w poezji chińskiej a poeci polscy

2018

The aim of the article is to present differences between the understanding of the concept of beauty in the Eastern and Western cultures. The author analyses creativity of the Polish poets who translated selected Chinese texts. She analyses also poetry that undertakes themes and motifs characteristic for Chinese poetry and connected with landscape, motifs of moon and grass. Representation of the elements of nature in the creativity of the Chinese classics is compared with works of Tadeusz Różewicz, Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, Julian Tuwim and Halina Poświatowska. Beauty, however differently defined in various cultures, often assumes similar forms.

Trwałe dziedzictwo Angelusa Silesiusa na przykładzie kościelnej pieśni „Jezu, Jezu do mnie przyjdź ”

2015

The literary legacy of Johannes Scheffler - Angelus Silesius (1624-1677), known in Polish as Silesian Angel, is one of the most precious jewels of culture created in Silesia in the 17th century. The poet became famous with a small collection of couplets Cherubinischer Wandersmann (Cherub wanderer), which tries to present the mystical path to God in a speculative way. This work includes the song Die Psyche sehnt sich nach Jesu alleine (Psyche only longs Jesus). It gives basis for the church song Jesus, Jesus, come to me, which is still popular i…
