Probabilistic response of nonlinear systems under combined normal and Poisson white noise via path integral method
2011
In this paper the response in terms of probability density function of nonlinear systems under combined normal and Poisson white noise is considered. The problem is handled via a Path Integral Solution (PIS) that may be considered as a step-by-step solution technique in terms of probability density function. A nonlinear system under normal white noise, Poissonian white noise and under the superposition of normal and Poisson white noise is performed through PIS. The spectral counterpart of the PIS, ruling the evolution of the characteristic functions is also derived. It is shown that at the limit when the time step becomes an infinitesimal quantity an equation ruling the evolution of the pro…
On deformation of Poisson manifolds of hydrodynamic type
2001
We study a class of deformations of infinite-dimensional Poisson manifolds of hydrodynamic type which are of interest in the theory of Frobenius manifolds. We prove two results. First, we show that the second cohomology group of these manifolds, in the Poisson-Lichnerowicz cohomology, is ``essentially'' trivial. Then, we prove a conjecture of B. Dubrovin about the triviality of homogeneous formal deformations of the above manifolds.
Micronucleus frequencies and clonogenic cell survival in TK6 cells exposed to changing dose rates under controlled temperature conditions.
2014
In most exposure scenarios the dose rate of exposure is not constant. Despite this, very little information exists on the possible biological effects of exposing cells to radiation under the conditions of a changing dose rate. The current study highlights interesting effects following exposure under these conditions. We constructed a new exposure facility that allows exposing cells inside an incubator and used it to irradiate human lymphoblastoid TK6 cells both after a moderate (0.48 Gy) and a high (1.1 Gy) dose, where the change in dose rate was, respectively, ≈ 17-fold (2.2-37 mGy/min) and ≈ 39-fold (2.7-106 mGy/min). Clonogenic survival and micronuclei (MN) induction were the chosen endpo…
A Variational Approach for Denoising Hyperspectral Images Corrupted by Poisson Distributed Noise
2014
Poisson distributed noise, such as photon noise is an important noise source in multi- and hyperspectral images. We propose a variational based denoising approach, that accounts the vectorial structure of a spectral image cube, as well as the poisson distributed noise. For this aim, we extend an approach for monochromatic images, by a regularisation term, that is spectrally and spatially adaptive and preserves edges. In order to take the high computational complexity into account, we derive a Split Bregman optimisation for the proposed model. The results show the advantages of the proposed approach compared to a marginal approach on synthetic and real data.
Performance analysis of user-centric SBS deployment with load balancing in heterogeneous cellular networks: A Thomas cluster process approach
2020
Abstract In conventional heterogeneous cellular networks (HCNets), the locations of user equipments (UEs) and base stations (BSs) are modeled randomly using two different homogeneous Poisson point processes (PPPs). However, this might not be a suitable assumption in case of UE distribution because UE density is not uniform everywhere in HCNets. Keeping in view the existence of nonuniform UEs, the small base stations (SBSs) are assumed to be deployed in the areas with high UE density, which results in correlation between UEs and BS locations. In this paper, we analyse the performance of HCNets with nonuniform UE deployment containing a union of clustered and uniform UE sets. The clustered UE…
Bayesian inference in Markovian queues
1994
This paper is concerned with the Bayesian analysis of general queues with Poisson input and exponential service times. Joint posterior distribution of the arrival rate and the individual service rate is obtained from a sample consisting inn observations of the interarrival process andm complete service times. Posterior distribution of traffic intensity inM/M/c is also obtained and the statistical analysis of the ergodic condition from a decision point of view is discussed.
Applicability of the Poisson distribution to model the data of the German Children's Cancer Registry.
1995
Since 1980 the German Children's Cancer Registry has documented all childhood malignancies in the Federal Republic of Germany. Various statistical procedures have been proposed to identify municipalities or other geographic units with increased numbers of malignancies. Usually the Poisson distribution, which requires the malignancies to be distributed homogeneously and uncorrelated, is applied. Other discrete statistical distributions (so-called cluster distributions) like the generalized or compound Poisson distributions are applicable more generally. In this paper we present a first explorative approach to the question of whether it is necessary to use one of these cluster distributions t…

Theoretical and experimental study of the role of cell-cell dipole interaction in dielectrophoretic devices: application to polynomial electrodes
2013
BACKGROUND: We aimed to investigate the effect of cell-cell dipole interactions in the equilibrium distributions in dielectrophoretic devices. METHODS: We used a three dimensional coupled Monte Carlo-Poisson method to theoretically study the final distribution of a system of uncharged polarizable particles suspended in a static liquid medium under the action of an oscillating non-uniform electric field generated by polynomial electrodes. The simulated distributions have been compared with experimental ones observed in the case of MDA-MB-231 cells in the same operating conditions. RESULTS: The real and simulated distributions are consistent. In both cases the cells distribution near the elec…
Validation of the group nuclear safety climate questionnaire.
2013
Abstract Introduction Group safety climate is a leading indicator of safety performance in high reliability organizations. Zohar and Luria (2005) developed a Group Safety Climate scale (ZGSC) and found it to have a single factor. Method The ZGSC scale was used as a basis in this study with the researchers rewording almost half of the items on this scale, changing the referents from the leader to the group, and trying to validate a two-factor scale. The sample was composed of 566 employees in 50 groups from a Spanish nuclear power plant. Item analysis, reliability, correlations, aggregation indexes and CFA were performed. Results Results revealed that the construct was shared by each unit, a…
