Uniaxial Pressure Effect on Dielectric Properties of 0.7Na0. 5Bi0.5TiO3‐0.3SrTiO3Ceramics
2014
The 0.7Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-0.3SrTiO3 ceramics were prepared by a solid-state mixed-oxide technique at 1180°C. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy studies revealed that the obtained samples possess perovskite structure. The behaviour of the electric permittivity (ɛ) and polarization of these ceramics as a function of uniaxial pressure (0 – 1000 bar) were investigated. Applying pressure shifts and decrease of maximum value of ɛ, a diffuseness of the permittivity characteristics, decrease of the thermal hysteresis and change of the polarization. We discuss our results based on elastic changes in inter-ionic distances in the crystal structure and nanoregions switching processes by pressure. The…
Structure and Dielectric Properties of Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-BaTiO3Solid Solutions
2013
Dielectric properties, polarization and x-ray diffraction are studied for (1-x)Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-xBaTiO3 solid solutions in a concentration range above the morphotropic phase boundary. It is showed that all the studied compositions have tetragonal structure with maximal tetragonality slightly above the morphotropic phase boundary. Ferroelectric relaxor behavior is observed in a wide concentration range of BaTiO3. Stability of the relaxor state decreases with increasing BaTiO3 concentration, but only for compositions with low Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3 content the normal ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition, which is characteristic to pure BaTiO3, occurs. Mechanisms, which influence the change of th…
Subwavelength beams with polarization singularities in plasmonic metamaterials
2014
We investigated the diffraction behavior of plasmonic Bessel beams propagating in metal-dielectric stratified materials and wire media. Our results reveal various regimes in which polarization singularities are selectively maintained. This polarization-pass effect can be controlled by appropriately setting the filling factor of the metallic inclusions and its internal periodic distribution. These results may have implications in the development of devices at the nanoscale level for manipulation of polarization and angular momentum of cylindrical vector beams. This research was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness under the project TEC2011-29120-C05-01.
<title>Theoretical and experimental studies of light diffraction anisotropy by holograms in a-As-S-Se films</title>
2003
Diffraction anisotropy (DA) defined as the polarization dependence of the amplitudes (amplitude DA) and phases (phase DA) of the diffracted light waves is studied in the case of a sinusoidal transmission amplitude-phase grating both theoretically and experimentally. Theoretical analysis was mainly based on the Kogelnik's coupled wave theory (KCWT) and also on the conclusions of rigorous coupled wave theory (RCWT) and effective medium theory (EMT). Experimentally gratings with 0.42 μm period in a-As-S-Se films at 632.8 nm were studied. KCWT predictions were compared with those of RCWT and EMT as well as with the experimental DA results. It is found that KCWT properly describes the first orde…
Polarization holograms and diffraction anisotropy in amorphous chalcogenides
2004
Polarization hologram recording based on the effect of photoinduced anisotropy (PA) is reviewed, focusing on amorphous chalcogenides (ACh). Possible PA mechanisms in ACh are considered. Polarization holographic grating recording in amorphous As?S?Se (a-As?S?Se) films is experimentally studied and analysed in comparison with scalar recording. It is holographically established that linearly polarized 632.8 nm light produces photoinduced anisotropy and the chalcogen related D+, D? centre reorientation and generation mechanism is proposed. It is used to explain the observed peculiarities of polarization (vector) recording in comparison with scalar recording based on photoinduced structural chan…
Atomic diffraction from nanostructured optical potentials
2002
We develop a versatile theoretical approach to the study of cold-atom diffractive scattering from light-field gratings by combining calculations of the optical near-field, generated by evanescent waves close to the surface of periodic nanostructured arrays, together with advanced atom wavepacket propagation on this optical potential.
Oblique incidence and polarization effects in coupled gratings.
2012
Oblique incidence and polarization orientation of the input beam have dramatic effects on the spectral response of coupled dielectric waveguide gratings. Coupled gratings with small periodic perturbations can be described as a problem of two coupled resonances at strictly normal incidence, but we find that the device involves four coupled resonances when oblique incidence and polarization effects are included in the analysis. Very small deviations from normal incidence change qualitatively the spectral response and four peaks are observed, whereas only two peaks are present at normal incidence. Polarization misalignments produce a decrease of the reflectance of the resonances at normal inci…
Excitation of a one-dimensional evanescent wave by conical edge diffraction of surface plasmon
2011
International audience; The experimental observation of a one-dimensional evanescent wave supported by a 90◦ metal edge is reported. Through a measurement of in-plane momenta, we clearly demonstrate the dimensional character of this surface wave and show that it is non-radiative in the superstrate. Excitation conditions, lateral extension and polarization properties of this wave are discussed. Finally, we explore the effect of the surrounding dielectric medium and demonstrate that a single edge can sustain distinct excitations.
Asymmetric transmission of transverse magnetic or radially polarized THZ waves through sub-wavelength gratings
2015
We have developed a metallic double circular grating with sub-wavelength slits which blocks radially polarized light incident from one of its sides and acts as a focusing diffractive element in the other direction. The proposed grating has been optimized for the sub-THz frequency range. Unidirectional transmission through the grating has been demonstrated experimentally at 0.1 THz. We have also developed a planar metallic double grating with sub-wavelength slits which blocks light with a transverse magnetic polarization incident from one of the grating sides and transmits radiation incident from the opposite direction into the +1 and −1 diffraction orders. These gratings which could be used…
Super-resolved or field of view enlarged imaging based upon spatial depolarization of light
2010
Abstract In this paper we present a new approach allowing the surpassing of the diffraction based limitation for the achievable resolution provided by imaging systems. It is based on an encoding–decoding process of various spatial pixels or regions in the field of view of the imaged object by orthogonal and differently time varying polarization states. The reconstruction of the original spatial information is obtained by applying a decoding process in a way similar to the encoding one. Although all the spatial information is summed and mixed together by the system, the decoding provides super-resolved imaging since in every spatial position the undesired spatial information having time vary…
