Monetary policy and inequality from an inclusive and social banking perspective

This doctoral thesis empirically evaluates the effects of monetary policy on income and wealth inequality in two of the main monetary areas of the world: the Eurozone and the United States. Moreover, in the case of the Eurozone, the interaction between the dynamics of income inequality and banking activity is evaluated, distinguishing between banking structures. Specifically, I empirically assess whether cooperative banks have a differential impact on the evolution of inequality with respect to other banking structures such as commercial banks or savings banks. Przeciwdziałanie depopulacji Opolszczyzny

W województwie opolskim od dawna obserwuje się niekorzystną sytuację demograficzną. Niskie wskaźniki dzietności oraz ujemne saldo migracji sprawiają, że Opolszczyzna harakteryzuje się jednym z najwyższych w kraju wskaźników depopulacji. Dostrzegając związane z tym zagrożenia samorządy województwa postanowiły wpłynąć na ich ograniczenie. Najwyższa Izba Kontroli zbadała1 działania podejmowane w Urzędzie Marszałkowskim Województwa Opolskiego, Urzędzie Miasta Opola oraz Urzędzie Miejskim w Nysie. Z ustaleń wynika, że możliwiły one poprawę warunków życia mieszkańców, jednak jak dotąd nie doprowadziły do odwrócenia negatywnych trendów demograficznych.

The investigation of bone injuries is an essential topic in forensics. We sometimes have to deal with charred or dismembered human remains that have lost soft tissue, making it difficult to diagnose the mechanisms of injury that led to death. Our contribution aims to share with the scientific community how we approached two cases of very different bone injuries and the techniques used to differentiate relevant pathology findings of bone fragments. The paper summarizes the sociological debate on the issues of poverty and social exclusion, focusing on the relationship between the micro and macrosociological dimensions of social relations. The author questions the links between impoverishment processes, individual and family life courses, structural and environmental characteristics, individual reflexivity, welfare interventions and services. The paper presents a clear picture not only of these complex interconnections, but also of individual and family strategies for coping with vulnerability.

In this paper, we examine instances of the methods pupils deploy to do language policy in an English as a foreign language classroom in Sweden, where there is a locally practised English-only rule. Although we exemplify some more tacit methods of constructing a monolingual classroom (Slotte-Lüttge 2007), we focus primarily on instances where pupils police other pupils and on occasion even the teacher, when they are perceived not to be upholding the rule. Italy’s presidency of the G20 defied the odds and resulted in costly commitments by the members on a range of issues: global health, climate change, a minimum global tax, and the crisis in Afghanistan. How can we explain this success? Italy’s prime minister, Mario Draghi, and his extensive prior experience and widespread respect was certainly a factor. The global context was also important, with the new Biden administration in the US leading a group of countries seeking multilateral solutions to pressing international problems.

How different policy instruments affect green product innovation : A differentiated perspective

Based on representative firm-level data for the three countries Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, we investigate the effects of energy-related regulations, taxes, voluntary agreements, and subsidies on the creation of green energy products, and analyze through which channels policy affects green product innovation and which factors mediate the observed effects. Policy may affect green product innovation by directly stimulating the supply of green products/services, or more indirectly by stimulating the demand for green products/services.
