Diaspora Start-Up Programs and Creative Industries: Evidence from Romania

2021

Romania is one of the main countries of origin for intra-European migration. The national authorities recently implemented the first major program —Diaspora Start-up—to support the business initiatives of Romanian citizens who live abroad and who are interested in opening a business in their home country. This scheme was developed in parallel with a broader program—Romania Start-up Plus—which was designed to support the entrepreneurial initiatives of individuals residing inside the country. These programs have already supported over 8,600 non-agricultural start-ups created in urban areas. This study conducted a comparative analysis of the two programs based on different criteria and explore…

STATE AID POLICY BETWEEN COMPETITION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: THE IMPACT OF STATE AID TO R&D ON GDP IN THE EU MEMBER STATES

2012

The paper focuses on the analysis of the relationship between state aid to R&D and economic growth, measured by GDP level, providing empirical evidence of a correlation between these variables. Using a methodology which combines the regression technique and Granger causality, we found that GDP represents a significant causal determinant of state aid, while the correlation the variables considered is positive and statistically significant, suggesting that, in spite of disparities between Member States, government support through state aid to R&D has evolved from maintaining undistorted competition to the possibility to act as an incentive for the economic growth in the EU.

Italy in Uncertain Times: Europeanizing Foreign Policy in the Declining Proces of the American Hegemony

2019

Past, present, and future of green product innovation

2021

Firms are under constant pressure from various governmental and nongovernmental agencies to switch from conventional environmentally polluting products to green product innovations (GPIs). However, the relevant research pertaining to GPI has been published in a diverse set of journals that vary in their scope and readership and, therefore, the scholarly contribution to the topic remains largely fragmented. This study has utilised a systematic literature review approach to examine the literary corpus on GPI to paint a holistic picture of its different aspects. The content and thematic analysis of 85 studies resulted in the extraction of seven key research themes: organisational capabilities,…

What contexts are favorable for the adoption of the contract teacher policy ?

2010

Education systems in Francophone African countries are undergoing major reforms, consequence of the international commitment to achieve Universal Primary Education (UPE) by 2015. Teachers' recruitment is among the most important reforms for at least two reasons: first, various researches presented it as necessary otherwise UPE will not be achieved; second, the alternative policy proposed is unpopular as new teachers are recruited with lower qualification, receive lower salaries and have a less secure job position. Yet, some governments have succeeded in changing their teacher recruitment scheme and others have not. Conditions allowing a government to make the reform are still uninvestigated…

2010

African countries' political arena is witnessing major changes due to the involvement of new political actors in the public policy making process (donors, political parties, civil society). In the past, the formulation of policies was a reflection of the central authority's will. Nowadays, governments are confronted with more resistance when adopting reforms. This paper laborates a model that describes the policy process in African countries and shows how new actors can influence the designing of the reform to their advantage. The model predicts that government success or failure in designing a reform according to its will is a function of the adoption pattern chosen and the ability of the …
