Nordic language policies for higher education and their multi-layered motivations

Language policies have been drafted in Nordic higher education with the obvious, but unproblematised and unchallenged motivation caused by internationalisation. In this article, we analyse the various motivations for drafting language policies in Nordic higher education and the ideological implications of those motivations. We do this by approaching the question from multiple (macro, meso and micro) viewpoints, in order to make visible some of the undercurrents in higher education language policy. Abstract The International Criminal Court (ICC) represents a criminal justice setting exceptionally welcoming to discourse scholars. The court website provides ample information about ongoing cases, hearings are livestreamed, and transcripts, video footage, and other relevant documents are available online. Against this background of comprehensive transparency, this paper explores the additional value of physically attending ICC trial hearings. This chapter discusses anti-racism education by focusing on how culture is used in educational discourses in Finland. More and more studies highlight the pervasive use of culture as a substitute for race, urging scholars to explore how and why cultural claims are made relevant (Breidenbach and Nyiri 2009; Piller 2011). The notion of ideology is related to social and material reality and especially to the processes of social reproduction. Therefore, the analysis of ideology seems to fall into the domain of discourse analysis. The analysis of language and practices of signification in social contexts constitutes the basic triangle of discourse analysis. Animality and Biblical Masculinities in Conflict: Moses and the Golden Calf (Exodus 32)

The purpose of this article is to analyze the masculinity of the biblical figure Moses in relation to the golden calf in Exodus 32. The prophet has been used as a model of biblical masculinity based on criteria such as violence, persuasive ability, his relationship to women, and physical disability. However, no gender construction derived from his interaction with the animal idol has been considered. In the context of the intersection of “animal studies” and “masculinity studies,” this article proposes the conceptualization of a biblical “zoomasculinity” linked to the prophet.
