The effect of the Spanish Law of Political Parties (LPP) on the attitude of the Basque Country population towards ETA: A dynamic modelling approach

2013

Abstract In June 2002, the Spanish Government passed the “Law of Political Parties” (LPP) with the aim, among others, of preventing parties giving political support to terrorist organizations. This law affected the Basque nationalist party “Batasuna”, due to its proved relation with ETA. In this paper, taking data from the Euskobarometro (Basque Country survey) related to the attitude of the Basque population towards ETA, we propose a dynamic model for the pre-LPP scenario. This model will be extrapolated to the future in order to predict what would have happened to the attitude of the Basque population if the law had not been passed. These model predictions will be compared to post-LPP dat…

Internet e campagne elettorali: la prospettiva dell'ordinamento italiano

2021

This paper intends to discuss the issue of regulation of social networks as a media space employed by political actors (individuals or organizations) for the formation of public opinion and the construction of consensus in the context of the electoral campaigns: in more synthetic terms, social networks as an instrument of electoral propaganda. The main subject of my essay will concern, therefore, the problems de iure condito and de iure condendo about the subjection of communication on social media to rules aimed at ensuring a fair comparison between parties, lists, candidates in the electoral competition and, with it, the value of freedom and authenticity of the vote that emanates from art…

Partie polityczne a proces zmian ideologicznych - ujęcie teoretyczne

2018

VOX Spain: The Organisational Challenges of a New Radical Right Party

2021

This article examines the organisation of VOX, a new radical right party in Spain. It shows that the party has taken early and uneven steps to build a mass organisation and initially opted for open membership recruitment with participatory organisational elements. Also, the party’s rapid growth and quick entrance into political institutions at different state levels led the party leadership to establish more centralised control and limit members’ prerogatives, though recruitment continued. Centralisation in part responds to organisational needs given the party’s quickly acquired political relevance, but also to the desire of the central party leadership to forestall the articulation of terr…

The Decline of Political Party Elite

2019

In this article, the author presents a claim that, in parallel to the end of mass parties, it is possible to observe the progressing decline of elites within political parties. This phenomenon manifests itself on the following three levels: 1) a theoretical level—less and less attention is paid to elites in the theory of political parties as their place is being taken over by other approaches, in particular leadership theory; 2) a terminological level—the notion of elites is being removed from analyses devoted to political parties and supplanted by other terms such us “leaders.” They are sometimes considered as the synonyms of the word “elite”; 3) a factual level—there are strong reasons to…

L’antimafia come risorsa politica

2019

Stabilność polityczna i personalna władz w warunkach alternacji i ciągłości rządów

2017

Celem rozdziału jest analiza stabilności polskiej sceny politycznej w wymiarze politycznym i personalnym. Przejścia i rozłamy w klubach parlamentarnych oraz zmiany w ramach gabinetów rządowych w trakcie V, VI i VII kadencji Sejmu poddane zostały analizie ilościowej i jakościowej. Pozwoliła ona sformułować wnioski o stabilności struktur władzy ustawodawczej i wykonawczej.

2019

Fragmented party system in Italy: nightmare or advantage for democracy? by Laura Lorello In building the newly-established democracy, the Authors of the Italian Constitution attributed a fundamental role to political parties. Therefore, the Italian political system comprises numerous political parties, often small in size, which have to coalesce to form a government majority. The resulting fragmented party system in Italy is generally considered a negative characteristic. Historically, it has been very difficult to reduce the number of political parties. Many attempts were made to modify the electoral system, from proportional representation to majority rule during the last thirty years. Mo…
