The widespread use of pesticides, especially in agricultural areas, makes necessary to control their presence in surrounding surface waters. The current study was designed to investigate the occurrence and ecological risks of pesticides and their transformation products in a Mediterranean river basin impacted by citrus agricultural production. Métodos: La población por sección censal (SC) procede del Instituto Nacional de Estadística. Los niveles de NO2 se midieron en 100 puntos del área de estudio, mediante captadores pasivos, en tres campañas entre 2002 y 2004. Se utilizó regresión por usos del suelo (LUR) para obtener el mapa de los niveles de NO2. The impact of noise on the population of an urban centre in Valencia (Spain)

Acoustic contamination in residential areas is a generalized problem. This paper reports the results of a survey trying to evaluate this contamination in the historical center of Valencia and about its effects upon that district's residents. A total of 700 residents in 11 different neighbourhoods of the city of Valencia were interviewed; at the same time environmental noise was determined at 225 different points within the area of study. In the historical center of Valencia, there exists an important problem of environmental noise and the daily levels clearly exceed the recommended limits.

ABSTRACT To investigate the influence of environmental pollution on the population genetics of Dreissena polymorpha, we developed five new polymorphic micro satellite loci for the zebra mussel. This mussel is widely distributed and is a common bioindicator in the field of ecotoxicology. The amplification of the microsatellite loci was tested on a single population of 24 individuals. In this population, the number of alleles per locus ranged from 3–14, and the observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.545–0.909 (mean, 0.772).
