New phosphazene-based chain extenders containing allyl and epoxide groups

2003

In this paper we present the synthesis and the characterization of cyclophosphazenes substituted with allyl groups, their transformation in epoxide-containing cyclophosphazenes and the final utilization of these compounds as chain extenders in combination with polyamides. The reaction at high temperature of Nylon-6 with epoxy-functionalized cyclophosphazenes leads to the opening of the epoxy units by the action of both amino (--NH2) and carboxylic (--COOH) end-groups of the polymer to enhance the final molecular weight of this material. The consequences of this fact on the thermal, mechanical and visco-elastic properties of treated Nylon-6 have been also evaluated and compared to those of t…

Blends of polypropylene and nylon 6: Influence of the compatibilizer, molecular weight, and processing conditions

1993

The aim of this work is to study the influence of different types of compatibilizing agents, different processing conditions, and the molecular weight of the two components on the properties of immiscible blends of polypropylene and nylon 6. Increasing the content of the functional group of the modified polypropylene and the content of nylon in the blend, the effectiveness of the compatibilization improves. The same effect is observed by decreasing the molecular weight of the two components, in particular, that of the polyamide. The influence of the processing conditions is slight provided no degradation takes place during processing. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Sulphur dioxide evolution during dried apricot storage

2009

Abstract Sulphur dioxide is used as a pre-treatment to facilitate drying, improve product quality and extend the shelf life of apricots. During storage, SO 2 losses are observed, thus reducing the effect of this agent. The aim of this paper is to analyze the evolution of SO 2 content in dried apricots packaged in different types of containers, namely glass and polypropylene trays thermosealed with different films (oriented polyamide OPA + polyethylene PE and polyamide PA + polypropylene PP). The packaging atmosphere was air in all cases. Storage was carried out at constant temperature: 5, 15, 25 and 35 °C. Stored samples were analysed periodically over 12 months. In order to model the SO 2 …

Photooxidative behaviour of polyethylene/polyamide-6 blends

2010

International audience; The photochemical behaviour of several polyethylene/polyamide-6 blends was studied under conditions of artificial accelerated weathering. Particular attention was paid to five different compositions ranging from pure polyethylene to pure polyamide with blends of PE/PA-6 of various compositions: 75/25, 50/50 and 25/75 wt/wt%. Analysis by infrared spectroscopy of the chemical modifications caused by photooxidation showed that exposing the polyethylene/polyamide-6 blends to UV-light irradiation led to the formation of oxidation photoproducts in both polymer phases. In agreement with both the mechanical and spectroscopic analyses, the photooxidation rate of the blends wa…

Metalation and N-alkylation of some polyamides

1981

Totally N-substituted polyamides were synthesized starting from poly(2,4,4-trimethylhexamethylene terephthalamide) by metalation of the amide groups and subsequent reaction with several electrophiles. Polyamides of this structure are not available from terephthalic acid and the corresponding diamines by polycondensation. This N-alkylation reaction can be used for the synthesis of comb-like graft copolymers. The solubilitity and the thermal properties of these polyamide derivatives are described.
