Spatiotemporal colorimetry to reveal electrochemical kinetics of poly(o-toluidine) films along ITO surface
2018
Abstract Sheet resistance of transparent conducting electrodes can affect dramatically the electrochromic response of surface confined active species in any electrochromic device. The generated gradient of effective potential on the electrode surface has a direct impact on the electrochemical kinetics of these species. In this work, the electrochromic poly (o-toluidine) (POT) film, a derivative polyaniline, was deposited along a narrow, long transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) supporting electrode with a sheet resistivity of 30 Ω cm−1. This configuration was used as a model to simulate a surface electrical conduction from the external metallic contact to the opposite extreme of ITO with an i…
PANI-Based Wearable Electrochemical Sensor for pH Sweat Monitoring
2021
Nowadays, we are assisting in the exceptional growth in research relating to the development of wearable devices for sweat analysis. Sweat is a biofluid that contains useful health information and allows a non-invasive, continuous and comfortable collection. For this reason, it is an excellent biofluid for the detection of different analytes. In this work, electrochemical sensors based on polyaniline thin films deposited on the flexible substrate polyethylene terephthalate coated with indium tin oxide were studied. Polyaniline thin films were abstained by the potentiostatic deposition technique, applying a potential of +2 V vs. SCE for 90 s. To improve the sensor performance, the electronic…
Conducting Polymers for Ammonia Sensing: Electrodeposition, Hybrid Materials and Heterojunctions
2017
International audience; Polyaniline (PANI) with electrodonating and electrowithdrawing substituents were electrodeposited and studied as sensing materials in resistors and heterojunctions. Whereas the dimethoxyaniline leads to a highly conductive material, the tetrafluoroaniline leads to a poor conducting polymer. However, this latter was used in heterojunctions, associated with a highly conductive material, the lutetium bisphthalocyanine LuPc2. Elsewhere, hybrid materials combining polypyrrole (PPy) with ionic macrocycles as counterions were also electrosynthesized and used as sensing material in resistors, for the detection of ammonia. They exhibit a higher sensitivity compared to PPy pre…
Dependence of the Optical Constant Parameters of p-Toluene Sulfonic Acid-Doped Polyaniline and Its Composites on Dispersion Solvents
2020
The optical constants of Para-Toluene sulfonic acid-doped polyaniline (PANI), PANIchitosan composites, PANI-reduced graphene-oxide composites and a ternary composite comprising of PANI, chitosan and reduced graphene-oxide dispersed in diluted p-toluene sulfonic acid (PTSA) solution and N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent have been evaluated and compared. The optical constant values were extracted from the absorbance spectra of thin layers of the respective samples. The potential utilization of the materials as the active sensing materials of surface plasmon resonance biosensors has also been assessed in terms of the estimated value of the penetration depth through a dielectric medium. The …
A new route for the preparation of flexible skin–core poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid)/polyaniline functional hybrids
2011
Abstract Surface modification of polymeric films is a way to obtain final products with high performance for many specific and ad hoc tailored applications, e.g. in functional packaging, tissue engineering or (bio)sensing. The present work reports, for the first time, on the design and development of surface modified ethylene–acrylic acid copolymer (EAA) films with polyaniline (PANI), with the aim of inducing electrical conductivity and potentially enable the electronic control of a range of physical and chemical properties of the film surface, via a new “grafting from” approach. In particular, we demonstrate that PANI was successfully polymerized and covalently grafted onto flexible EAA su…
ZnO/polyaniline composite based photoluminescence sensor for the determination of acetic acid vapor
2020
In this study, we report a novel ZnO/polyaniline (PANI) nanocomposite optical gas sensor for the determination of acetic acid at room temperatures. ZnO nanorods, synthesized in powder form were coated by PANI (ZnO/ PANI) by chemical polymerization method. The obtained nanocomposites were deposited on glass substrate and dried overnight at room temperature. Structure and optical properties of ZnO/PANI nanocomposite have been studied by using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, diffuse reflectance and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Tests towards acetic acids were performed in the range of concentrations 1–13 ppm. The adsorption of acetic a…

Hydrogen Production from Methanol-Water Solution and Pure Water Electrolysis Using Nanocomposite Perfluorinated Sulfocationic Membranes Modified by P…
2022
In this work, we report the preparation of Nafion membranes containing two different nanocomposite MF-4SC membranes, modified with polyaniline (PANI) by the casting method through two different polyaniline infiltration procedures. These membranes were evaluated as a polymer electrolyte membrane for water electrolysis. Operating conditions were optimized in terms of current density, stability, and methanol concentration. A study was made on the effects on the cell performance of various parameters, such as methanol concentration, water, and cell voltage. The energy required for pure water electrolysis was analyzed at different temperatures for the different membranes. Our experiments showed …
Conductive polycaprolactone/gelatin/polyaniline nanofibres as functional scaffolds for cardiac tissue regeneration
2022
Abstract The endorsement of functional features such as biocompatibility, mechanical integrity, or electrical conductivity to tissue engineering (TE) scaffolds is essential to stimulate cell adhesion and proliferation. In this study, electrospun nanofibers based on polycaprolactone (PCL) and gelatin (Ge) (ratios 60/40, 50/50, and 40/60), and polyaniline (PAni) particles (0.25, 0.50, and 1.00%wt) were prepared. The time of dissolution in an acid solvent mixture before electrospinning allowed for obtaining nanofibers with controlled features. Changes in the molar mass (Mn from 90·103 to 15·103 g·mol−1), in the crystalline microstructure (Xc from 60 to 25%) and the surface morphology (diameter…
